February 2015

The anxiety Willow had been feeling all night grew larger the longer the others didn't come down stairs. Willow wasn't exactly sure how far away the shed was, but she knew it wasn't that far. It should've only been a few minutes there and back, but it had felt like an eternity had passed since she made her way down to the basement after talking to Mike.

The three girls had been standing around the room in silence ─ the type of silence that was both awkward and comforting at the same time.

Willow was still leaning against the desk, her eyes low to the ground. She hadn't wanted to look at either Sam or Emily since the hug. She knew Emily had started to feel guilty about what she had said about Matt, but Willow knew it was just in the heat of the moment and that Emily had gone through a rollercoaster of emotions so fast while running for her life ─ literally.

Chris pushed his way through the same door that Willow had come through, Mike and Ashley right behind him. But no one else.

Willow stood straight, looking over the three of them as Mike shut the door.

"Oh my God! Guys!" Emily sighed in relief, "Thank God!"

"What took you so long?" Sam asked.

Chris shook his head, "It's not so good up there right now─"

"Understatement of the night." Mike tilted his head. Willow made eye contact with him, eyes curious. He shrugged, seemingly out of breath.

"Chris," Sam turned to him, "where's the flamethrower guy?"

Chris didn't look at any of them, "Ah, yeah, he uh..."

Willow balked, closing her eyes. Great.

"He didn't make it?" Ashley exclaimed.

"What happened?" Sam asked, her voice laced with concern.

Chris' hand wrapped around his torso to his side in a way that made Willow wonder if he had gotten hurt out there. "The thing, it.. it tore him apart! Right in front of me."

Wincing, Willow agreed with the statement Sam breathed out. Oh God in deed. They were probably screwed now. He seemed to know everything there was to know about what to do and Willow's knowledge could only get them so far when she couldn't even remember if what she knew was right or about another creature, let alone if the lore was even correct in the first place.

First hand experience was better than theory.

"Alright," Mike breathed out, looking at the door they just came through before passing Willow to go into the secondary room, "These all the doors?"
