February 2015

Willow's anger had subsided a small bit as they walked back down the tunnels they had gone through earlier in the night. It had felt like that time had been days ago, but Willow knew she was just exhausted and overwhelmed.

She had blown up on Mike not long into their trek through the tunnels when he tried apologizing and since then, they had been walking in silence. Willow felt a little guilty for blowing up, but she felt as if it was deserved. No one listened to her. Willow Su, the history major, the girl who loved lore and mythology and culture. No one listened to the man who knew more than the rest of them.

No one listened.

That was what pissed her off.

Sure, Willow had been a little untruthful as of late, but she had stopped the lies by omission the moment things turned serious. Her word about something should've meant something to them. At least, she felt like of all people, Mike should've believed her. Or maybe that was just the hopelessness of the stupid crush she now had on him.

Willow sighed, her hands tucked into the pockets of her windbreaker to keep her hands as warm as possible without her gloves. She was starting to regret taking them off back in the Lodge. Some warmth and protection on her hands was better than nothing.

Approaching a door, Mike lowered the flashlight as he glanced over his shoulder at Willow before pulling it open. Willow avoided his gaze.

"Oof," Mike pulled the door open enough for both of them to slip through, stepping through and holding it for Willow, muttering to himself, "Ok, ok, ok...what's th─"

Willow slipped through behind him, tensing as she did her best to avoid bumping into him once she was through to the other side. The sound of a piece of metal sliding caught her attention. She looked over her shoulder to see Mike locking the door behind them. Not feeling up to talking, Willow didn't ask why he was locking it behind them.

What if the Wendigo found the others and they tried following them down into the tunnels toward the sanatorium? Locking the door would kind of screw them over.

Mike stepped around Willow, his free hand brushing against her back as he shined the light down the hallway. They did their best to avoid as much of the debris as they could as they walked down the hallway.

Trying to avoid bumping into one of the larger pieces on the ground, Willow stepped to the left, only to feel a tug on her windbreaker the moment she tried moving forward. Groaning softly, Willow shifted to look where she was stuck. It was too dark behind her to really tell.

"You okay?" Mike called from a few feet ahead, walking back toward her and shining the light for her.

A giant tear had formed, but the piece of metal was hooked over the end of the tear.
