“Don’t go inside! One of our bridesmaids needs someone to walk down the aisle with.”

I looked down at Nancy’s text and sighed. I loved Nancy but I honestly didn’t wanna be apart of this wedding. The Emmys were this weekend and our flight to Los Angeles was heading out tonight, so I was planning on leaving as soon as they said “I do”.

As Gloria headed inside to her seat, I walked to the huge tent where Nancy and her bridal party were congregating. As soon as I walked inside, it was utter chaos. Hairspray being sprayed everywhere, yelling, and flower crowns tossed all over the grass.

“Daddy, daddy!” I heard Winnie’s voice ringing from somewhere. I saw her jumping up and down and I ran to her. I picked her up and toted her on my waist.

“Daddy, mommy is a bride!” She pointed to Nancy. She had on a white gown with a long lace train trailing behind her. She seemed relaxed, although all her bridesmaids weren’t. She walked over to me and Winnie.

“I know, Winn. A beautiful one.” I smiled as Nancy approached us.

“I’m glad you’re here.” Nancy smiled, then her face turned serious. “One of my darling groom’s party couldn’t make it. I was hoping you’d fill in. My bridesmaid won’t bite.”

“You sure?” I referred to the girls behind me fighting over eye shadow color.

Nancy laughed. “Knock it off back there!”

“Which one is she?”

“Oh she’s nothing like them. She’s already dressed and ready to go. She’s out by the beach.”

“I’m not just going to go talk to one of your bridesmaids and leave you and Winne here.. I hardly know this girl.”

“Oh go on you innocent fool.” Nancy grabbed Winnie and sat her in a chair. “Go out there now and introduce yourself to her.” She pushed me out of the tent to an empty area of the lot.

Nancy and Jesse rented out an entire beach community in The Hamptons for this wedding. There was a side of the beach not being used, and that’s where a girl was standing. She was in the same attire as the other bridesmaids. Her hair blew behind her and the flower crown stuck in her hair made her look awfully pretty from behind. I walked over to her and tapped her shoulder.

“Hey, I don’t know if Nance told you but I’m gonna be walking down the aisle with you.” I tried to be polite but I realized it came out wrong.

“Wouldn’t that be one hell of a plot twist?” She turned around and knocked the wind out of me with her smile. I immediately pulled her in for a hug, trying to remember what it felt like to hug her.

“Gosh, you’re so beautiful.”

Her cheeks got a little red and she smiled. “I’m sorry I jetted from New York like that. I was still totally messed up and I didn’t want to be with you until I was at least sane.” She looked off to the ground and dug her toes in the sand.

“Hey,” I grabbed her hand. “I understand.”

“Yeah I know.” She giggled. “Nancy told me you’ve been keeping tabs on me.”

“I knew she’d tell you, I wanted you to know you haven’t left my mind. I was going crazy without my girl.”

She moved closer to me and grabbed my tie. “I still don’t know why Jimmy Fallon even wants to be bothered with a girl like me.”

“If you call this bothered, then you can bother me for the rest of my life.” I chuckled to myself and watched her every eye flutter and the way her curls bounced in the wind.
