I woke up and no one else seemed to be awake. I walked in the kitchen and checked the time. 10am. Jimmy was laid out on the couch. I walked to Winnie room to check on her and she was standing in her crib with a pouting face.
“What’s wrong, cutie?” I asked. She reached her arms out to me, so I grabbed her and held her in my arms. I walked her into the kitchen and sat her in her high chair.
“So, you wanna tell me what’s up now?” I sat on the other end of the table, pretend like it was some kind of interrogation.
“Avo..cado?” Winnie quietly whispered. I smiled because this was the first time she talked to me.
“Okay,” I nodded. “You got it.”
I got up and searched the fridge for her avocado. I found it and placed it front of her. Just before I was about to feed her, she nudged the spoon away.
“I thought you were hungry?”
I giggled. “Daddy.” She pointed toward the couch where Jimmy was still sound alseep.
“I don’t get it.” I laughed.
“Daddy face.”
“You clever girl.. yeah let’s do that.”I grabbed her out of the high chair, grabbed the avocado with the other hand, and I walked over to the couch. I put Winnie down in front of her dad and she grabbed her little handful of avocado and rubbed it on his cheek. He moved a little, which scared her so she backed up and fell into my lap. I laughed as Jimmy slowly woke up and smiled at us.
“Look at you too, good morning!” He sat up.
“Good morning.” I smiled.
“What are you two up to?”
“Oh nothing.” I shrugged.
Jimmy got up and walked to the kitchen and grabbed some orange juice while me and Winnie watched him. He still didn’t notice avocado was on his face until it fell in his cup of orange juice. Winnie giggled hysterically.
“Winnie wanted to put it on your face.” I laughed.
“You did this Win?” He ran back over to us and picked her up and swung her around as she giggled loudly. Jimmy’s such a perfect dad, she brings out the absolute best in him. In these 3 days, I really grew to like Jimmy’s little family. And I grew to like Jimmy a lot even though I didn’t really see him much.
After we all took showers and ate, it was time for me to say goodbye to my little 72 hour home. Jimmy grabbed the stuff he brought me and I held Winnie as we left out. He put the things in the back of the car and then took Winnie from my hands so he could strap her in. After all of that, we got in the car and headed to Jersey. The car ride was about a half-hour, and it was silent. Winnie fell asleep and I sort of drifted off, until we encountered traffic.
“So, you excited to get back to your family?” Jimmy broke the silence.
“Yeah,” I nodded. “I really hope I can go back to school. I want my degree.”
“I hope you do. And if you’re still into writing, make sure you apply to NBC. We’re in need of female writers. I bet you’re great.”
“Really? You’d want me as a writer?”
“Of course!” He smiled.
“I’ll look into it.” I joked.“Look into it, a lot! It’s so much fun.”
“Okay, I will. It’d be cool to work for The Tonight Show. I can only dream.” Traffic started moving again.
“Hey, dreams come true you know. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I’d be hosting the show, but I am.”
“They couldn’t have picked anyone better.” I smiled.
“Well, thank you. I’m so lucky.”
