Taehyung made the first move of the game with a simple pawn, moving it forward one square. He got back to his king spot and crossed his arms over his chest, waiting for me to play my turn.

I glanced over the chessboard and decided to move my knight forward before walking back to my spot. Then, he took his rook and advanced it to the middle of the chessboard. I decided to advance the pawn in front of my queen in order to free my queen. I cracked a smile as I saw Taehyung moving left the same rook he had moved before. I decided to move myself forward. After that, Taehyung moved his knight. I eventually moved another pawn to free my queen.

The brunette took my first pawn. I was expecting him to , but I didn't care all that much; I wanted to play my queen first.

We glanced at each other. His half serious, half amused expression warmed my heart. Suddenly, it felt like the ring no longer existed. It was just him and me, just us and the chessboard.

"Sir?"

He put his hands in his pockets and looked at me.

"Will the winner earn something...?"

My superior arched a brow and tilted his head.

"What do you want?" He asked, knowingly.

I blushed and averted my eyes to my white pieces.

"Nothing... It's my turn," I said with a small voice.

He said nothing but I could feel his burning gaze following my every move. I moved my queen forward behind the two pawns I had moved earlier. The brunette took a second pawn of mine. I smiled, taking his rook with my bishop. He pretended to be surprised.

I said 'pretended'.

Because right after that, he took my bishop with his knight. I frowned. He had fooled me. I was so happy to take his rook that I hadn't noticed the placement of my bishop.

"No...," I whined.

After placing my bishop outside of the board, my boss sneakily licked his lips before crossing his arms over his chest. I sighed and carefully examined the board.

An idea popped in my head. I grabbed my king and rook to do a castle. During castling a king moves two spaces towards the rook that it will castle with, and the rook jumps to the other side. Now on the bottom right square my king was protected and my rook was more centered, allowing me to make better use of it in the game. My boss laughed slightly.

Yes, he laughed.

It was soft and short, almost imperceptible, yet he had still laughed. It was a small giggle of amusement. I stared in awe. He quickly regained his composure and clenched his jaw before looking at me.

"That's not going to save you from me."

A shiver ran down my spine. His voice was so deep that it made me feel dizzy. His charm was out of this world, though I had never doubted that. Whenever he uttered something with that voice, in that way and with such an intense gaze, it drove me crazy.

"...M-my turn."

I blushed, embarrassed for having stuttered. Taehyung kept silent, but we both knew how he had unsettled me.
