Yesterday was not a good day. Not for Theo nor Liam, even though it started as one of the great days the two usually had.
Liam was struggling with school for the past few weeks. His IED got a bit worse and the younger boy had some troubles with concentrating and his grades started to drop. Of course it affected his mood too and Theo saw Liam was sadder and more frustrated. They both knew it was a short period. Sometimes it was better, sometimes it was worse. And right now, Liam was struggling at the lower point of his IED.
And Theo, who was a really good boyfriend, couldn't just sit there and watch Liam suffer on his own. So apart from helping Liam with school, he decided to plan out a date.
Liam was thrilled, when Theo told him that they will be eating out tonight at a trailer diner. Like the ones you always see in movies - with dark red leather sitting booths, a long bar across the whole place and a jukebox standing somewhere in the corner while a pleasant smell of freshly brewed coffee filled up the air.
It was around 9 PM when the boys sat down to have a meal. "Pick anything you want, darling. Tonight's on me." And that's the last thing that has been said right before three hunters broke in just to find two werewolves sitting st the table. They immediately pulled out their weapons, not caring about all the other innocent, non-supernatural people who were there, panicking and screaming. "Off ya go, you filthy scumbags," One of the hunters growled under his breath with an ugly grin and was about to shoot Theo, when Liam moved in front of him, taking a bullet for him somewhere right under the ribs.
Theo didn't exactly remember how they got out alive. He had a complete blackout, but what really mattered now was that Liam was laying on Theo's bed in his apartment with a bleeding hole in his body, that didn't seem to heal.
It's been a few days and Liam's condition was getting worse day by day. And to their luck, Deaton was out of town searching for somekind of an ancient artefact. And he certainly wouldn't be coming back soon enough to help Liam. The boys figured that the bullet was poisoned, but they didn't know by what. It certainly didn't smell like wolfsbane. Theo had to figure it out quick, because Liam wasn't going to last long.
To Theo's luck, Lydia responded quicky and sent him some information. Not about the poisoning, but a tip of who could actually help. She wrote an unfamiliar adress of some lady called Clarice. Theo had no clue who she was but was determined to seek her out, because everything was better than watching his soulmate slowly dying even after removing the poisoned bullet.
Clarice was a lady in her mid fifties, but already had long grey hair. She was very kind and friendly and explained to Theo, that she was a so called white witch. "Darling, magic can heal everything," she smiled politely at Theo, who was sitting in a big armchair and nervously tapping his foot on the floor, "But times are hard, as you know. Mrs. Tamora is gone, but some of her followers still remain at Beacon Hills. I will need something in return," She started of carefully. Theo nodded his head in a quick motion. "Yeah, of course. I'll get you anything you need. Deaton's office is full of-" Clarice cut Theo off by slowly raising her hand, her palm facing his worried face, as if she said 'enough, just listen'.
"Darling, everything he has in his office is mainly what I gave him," she smiled, as she explained, "I have more supplies than I could dream of. My request is more simple, we will be dealing like ordinary human beings. The pharmacist gives you the medicine and you give money in return. See, I cannot really work normally and risk being exposed to hunters. I prefer living in peace, not fighting. Is that enough as an explanation? What do you say, Mr. Raeken? Are you open to making a deal to save your friend?" "Boyfriend," Theo mumbled quietly, gazing away for a few seconds before looking Clarice straight into her eyes, "It's a deal. So how much money do you need?"
Theo did not expect such an amount of money which has been said. Even if he borrowed money from almost every person in town, he couldn't possibly pay it off.
The next few nights were a nightmare. Theo didn't get any sleep. He was laying on his bed next to Liam, who was in terrible pain and Theo did his best to take all of his agonizing pain. "Baby, Li, please... Please hold on, don't you dare die on me. I'm working on it. We'll fix this, I promise." He whispered while tears were rolling down his face. At this point Theo didn't know if it was from Liam's absorbed pain or because he was doing a miserable job of saving his boyfriend. And in that moment it hit him.Theo shot up from the bed and ran over to the dresser, frantically pulling out a ton of black clothes. He knew he was probably making a lot of noise, but Liam wasn't really in a state to notice. He got dressed, gave Liam a slow, loving kiss on his sweaty hot forehead and creeped out of the apartment.
In the elevator Theo decided to take a quick photo and then sent it to Liam. If he woke up, he could start panicking where Theo is and could worsen his own condition.*image sent*
Babe, I'm ok. Rest & wait for me to come back. I'll be back asap with the cure. Love you to the moon & back. T.
There were gunshots, alarms ringing and red lights flashing as if Theo was in the Sinema. But he managed to get out uncaught and hide in the woods. Thank god for the coyote cave Malia used to live in.
He threw himself and his bag on the ground and listened carefully for any footsteps, heartbeats or voices, but nothing came. Theo was terrified. He had done bad things, way worse than robbing a bank, but he'd always done it for himself, selfishly and for his own prosper only. Never ever did he care about someone else's life until the day he met Liam Dunbar. And what's worse, now Liam's life depended on him. But everything he did was worth it.Both sides kept their promises. Theo gave the money to Clarice and Clarice gave Theo the cure for Liam's poisoning. "Your lover will be okay. Don't worry, dear." Clarice stroked Theo's cheek gently,"And don't you worry. This was only a test, you know? I'm an old lady, way older than you may think I am and I have made deals with more people and beings you can ever imagine. I am a nice person, but I've dealt with betrayal before. I kept my promises but not everyone did so too. I had to see where are your limits, what are you capable of doing for saving your beloved one. And you, Theodore, are a man of your word. For you, love knows no boundaries. Your soul has a few scars but you are a good person by heart."
Clarice made her way to the bag full of stolen money and opened it. "This money will be returned to it's place in a matter of few days. Everything will be forgotten, any kind of damage will be reversed as if it never happened."
With those words, Clarice gave Theo the cure for Liam. A few tears rolled down Theo's face as he bowed down to her thankfully and rushed home to save his boyfriend.
He was just in time, Liam looked like he was not going to last much longer. His bullet wound got bigger, the skin area around it was swollen and hot and the blood coming out of it was dark green, almost blackish.Clarice's cure worked. The next morning Liam improved a lot. His skin had a healthier color and the wounds was healing. The fever was gone and even though the younger werewolf was still weak to get up, Theo was joyful.
"Dunbar, you fricking idiot! Don't you ever, ever try to save me again, you got it?!" Theo growled angrily, his eyes burning with amber and fangs out while he was shaking the younger boy by the shoulders. Liam had to laugh. "Glad to see you're happy that I'm doing better, love!"Theo's eyes softened, stopped glowing and the fangs disappeared. He loosened the grip on Liam's shoulders but still held him. "I actually thought I was going to lose you, Li. I never felt this miserable in my whole life. I can't lose you." Liam smiled softly and ran his hand through Theo's hair as if he didn't believe Theo was real. But he was and Liam pulled him into a hug. "You'll never lose me. I just wouldn't be able to live with myself if I didn't at least try to save you. You'd do the same thing for me, babe." Theo didn't argue. Liam was right, he would do it. Or maybe he'd just rip the guys' throats apart. Who knows? And why does it matter? Liam was here - holding him, loving him, and most importantly healing. And Theo was protecting him. And will continue to do so for the rest of his life, as he promised to himself. Even if it meant standing alone against the whole town.
"I love you, Theo."
"I love you too, babywolf."
