Christmas was very, very different this year. Not only did covid interfere but Romain, your brother had a near fatal crash in Bahrain a few weeks back and it really put he whole racing world into shock. When Romain came home, his hands were still in need of some care as the burns weren't properly healed and his doctors told him to rest it properly but of course, he didn't fully rest it. He wasn't going to let you run around and do all the work in the house, take care of the kids, cook and also take care of him. It was too much so he tried and begged to help you with the Christmas decorating or Christmas Dinner at least. He finally got his way as you reluctantly agreed with doubts running around the back of your head.
Christmas Eve sure was a busy place. The kids had all asked for different things and Romain made it his sworn duty to wrap the gifts as best as he could and make everything look presentable for his little family and of course, he succeeded with your help. Romain finished placing the final gift by the fireplace and took the plate the children left out for Santa back to the couch. "Do you want the cookie or can I cheat on my diet?" He joked. You let out a faint laugh and nodded. "You deserve it with the year you've been through." Romain sat munching happily on the cookie and took a sip of milk before standing up and holding his hand out for you to help you up off the couch. "Alright, the angel is on the tree, stockings are filled with candy, presents are under the tree, let's do the cooking." Romain chirped. You were in disbelief, shocked even. How was he so happy? His hands aren't entirely usable yet here he is smiling as if nothing happened. "Please be careful." Marion begged. Romain chuckled a bit and picked up the turkey. "What is it going to do? Jump up and bite me?" Still with the jokes that made you smile.
"Better safe than sorry." You replied. "You both worry too much. Just relax." He said before returning to hid cooking. You watched on carefully as he did his best to season and cook the turkey. "Agh." He groaned. You were quick to jump up and inspect why he was hurt. "What happened?" You asked taking a hold of his hand gently. "Nothing. The scab just stretched and I think it might be bleeding but it's fine." He reassured you. "The nadages need to be changed anyway Romain. I'll change them now. Marion?" Your sister in law turned around from her job to see what she was needed for "Could you just do this while I change Romain's bandages?" You asked. "Definitely. Just let me finish up the carrots first." You went over to the medical box and took out the bandages needed before taking off the bandages from your brother's hand. He winced in pain as the scabs peeled off because of them almost mixing with the bandages. "I'm not hurting you right?" You asked slightly scared. "No, not at all. I just want to hurry to go and finish the turkey." You rolled your eyes. "Just take it easy. We want your hand healed Romain." You said wrapping the new bandage around. "Yeah I know but I also don't want you running after me."
"What do you mean? I'm always here for Christmas." You protested. "Yes you are but you never used to observe me cooking and jump if I breathed wrong." You became a little bit frustrated. "Do you not know how scary it was to watch that crash? Watching my Big brother, my super hero, not knowing if you were alive? I was beside Marion and the kids, beside papa and we all watched, we all prayed that you got out of that car Romain. I am so cautious with you now because I am grateful that you are standing here before me. You're like a Christmas miracle or something. I really don't know what else to say other than I just really want to spend more time with you because if it ended when you crashed, I wouldn't have forgiven myself for not spending enough time with you, for not listening to you. "Your voice cracked. "I just really love you and I would have missed you every second of every day if you weren't here. I don't know what I'd do if I didn't know you'd be a call away." Romain pulled you into a hug. There was his little sister breaking down in tears. He felt almost selfish. "I'm sorry."
"What the hell ar you sorry for? I just brought down the mood of Christmas!" He chuckled to himself. "I'm just trying to be sincere and apologise. I now it must not have been easy for you but I'm here now. I don't think we should talk about what could have happened, we should think of the what will happen." He lifted your face up and wiped away your tears. "Have I ever told you that you were the best sister?" You shook your head. "Good because you are seriously a piece of work." You scoffed and slapped his arm playfully. "So rude." You said to him drying off your cheeks with your hands. "I'm joking hut seriously. You're the best sister and I love you very much." He said patting your back. "I love me very much too."
"You have to say you love me back!" You scoffed and rolled your eyes. "No! Absolutely not!" Romain was down to his last line of defence. "I'll tell Marion!" You laughed and walked back out to the kitchen with him. "She'll side with me anyway so tell away!" At least now, they could have their sibling jokes and they could have all of this. You were just grateful that you were able to.
