The double date with Keiko was interesting, to say the least. Turns out the guy was gay and hadn't thought it was an actual date, just hanging out. Well, he was nice and is now dating Keiko's cousin Arthur.  My phone buzzed, and I smiled when I saw Jeffery's name on the screen. I picked up my phone, laughing at his greeting.

"Guess who?"

'Um... The Easter Bunny."

"DING DING DING!!!"

"Hi, Jeffery." I smiled. "What's up?"

"Actually, this isn't Jeffery or the Easter Bunny."

"Oh?" I raised my eyebrows. "Then who is this, may I ask?"

"This is his twin brother whom you have NEVER met, Jacob."

"Well, how do you do Jacob?" I said, playing along.

"I'm good, but I would be even better if you would go out on a date with me tonight."

"That sounds amazing Jacob, but I'm afraid I'm dating your brother, Jeffery. However, if you would like to invite him to my apartment for me, I would love to teach him how to make a strawberry-rhubarb crumble, as, I shockingly found out recently, he has never had one."

"That sounds like fun; I'm sure he'll accept. Give me one moment, please. Jeffery, would you like to go to your beautiful girlfriend's apartment and bake sweet goodies?" Muffled sounds came from the phone, and I stifled a laugh, knowing full well Jeffery was just covering the mouthpiece with his hand. "He would be delighted and will be there at five o'clock. And I'll tell him to put it in his planner."

"Good to know. Thank you for your cooperation, Jacob."

"My pleasure m'lady."

"Please relay the message to Jeffery that I love him." Without a pause, 'Jacob' spoke.

"He says he loves you too," I said goodbye and hung up, a smile lingering on my lips for hours after.

That evening, at five o'clock sharp, Jeffery entered my apartment.

"Well, well, well. Actually on time! I'm impressed Tifton. Very impressed." I walked over, pressing my lips to his in a brief kiss.

"Well, if you must know, I arrived at 4:57, and stood in the hall until 5." I rolled my eyes, but laughed, pulling him into the kitchen. Pulling out the recipe book, I flipped to the right page. I started giving Jeffery orders rapid-fire, which he did his best to obey, pulling the strawberries,  rhubarb, lemon juice, and stick of butter out of the fridge, while I got the dry ingredients out of the cupboard (A/N: I'll put a link to my families fav recipe down below)

For the next two hours, the kitchen was filled with good smells, band-aids when Jeffery nicked himself with the knife, laughter, and of course, music. Singing with a track or acapella, Jeffery and I belted out the music, and there may have been some sliding across the kitchen floor in our socks while singing "Love is an Open Door". When the crisp came out of the oven, Jeffery leaned over and gave a big dramatic sniff. "Ah. Smells almost as heavenly as you look." I swatted him, but smiled when I turned away. I set the crisp down on the stove to cool, then jumped when Jeffery's arms slid around my waist. "Now that the pie thingy is done, may I have your undivided attention as it cools?"

"You may, but this undivided-attention-session is not allowed to end up in bed."

"I wouldn't dream of it." Jeffery leaned down and kissed my shoulder ever so gently. I turned my head, gently kissing him back. "But, the couch is still a possibility."

"Jeffery!"

"I'm kidding!"

"Well, stop kidding about it! I told you my boundaries, so please, don't even joke about crossing them."

"OK. I'm sorry Battikins. You know I would never hurt you, emotionally or physically."

"That's not what I'm worried about. What I'm scared of is, what if things start to heat up, and I can't pull away?" I turned to face Jeffery, my eyes searching his. "What if things start moving faster than I can process, and the next thing I know..." I trailed off, leaning my head against his chest. Jeffery kissed the top of my head softly, one hand coming up to play with my hair.

"If anything like that starts to happen, I'll pull away if you can't, I swear." I tilted my head up and gave a little smile. I had never voiced my biggest fear to anyone before, but it felt right to tell Jeffery. He leaned down, kissing me again, and I tried to pour out all the mixed-up emotions into that kiss. How much I loved him and cared for him, how I have for a long time, and how this little part of me wanted to ignore my fears and just go to bed with him already. When we broke apart, Jeffery leaned his forehead against mine. "Battikins has anyone ever told you that you're amazing and beautiful?" His voice was low and soft. I shook my head. "Well, you are." He straightened up. "Now, is the pie done cooling yet?"

Next: Sorry for a fluffier chapter than normal, but my single-for-life-self has always dreamed of 1)finding a guy but then 2) baking with him while goofing off. Is that strange???

QOTD: What book genre is your favorite? I like realistic fiction and fantasy, but I won't turn down an Agatha Cristie. Your turn!
