Chapter 31 : The First Task P.T.3

I stepped out of the tent and the crowd erupted, I smiled slightly as I felt the embrace of the crowd cheering me on. I walked into the centre of the arena and waited for the dragon, to be unleashed. I exhaled deeply as I gripped onto my wand, breathe.... be in control...
I heard a rattling of chains as I opened my eyes, I watched as they pulled forward a cage with the Alaskan Nightmare, staring deep into my soul. I looked at the pattern across it's left wing, scars... this must be the female they found.... just my luck... I sighed and took a few steps back, I heard a ground shaking roar from beast itself and was taken back slightly, she's angry.... doesn't want to be chained up... I looked to my left and saw a dragon's den with the golden egg!
"Champion! When you are ready!!"
I snapped my head back to the she-dragon in front of me. Here goes nothing....
"Release the dragon!"
I watched as the chains were removed from her arms and wings, but not from her neck, that chain is digging into her skin. I was quickly brought out of my thoughts as I watched the 20 foot dragon swing at me with its tail. I dodged out of the way and hid behind a rock, that was close... I suddenly felt an icy chill go down my spine, the boulder I was hiding behind was completely frozen! I forgot! They don't breathe fire! They breath ice! I climbed over rocks and stones, trying to get closer to the egg, I looked up to see thousands of ice shards flying at me.
"Protego!!"
I held up a shield as I ran for shelter, I hid under a rock and sighed, I suddenly heard a pain-induced roar from the other side of the arena. I peeked my head around a rock to see the Alaskan Nightmare tugging at the chain around its neck, that chain is hurting it.... I looked over at the egg that was a few feet away from me. Screw the egg... I need to get that chain off... I felt my eyes glisten white as I felt my tattoo pulsing. I smiled as I felt the power surge through me, this should help me... I slowly made my way around the rock and towards the beast, thankfully it hadn't seen me yet as I crept ever so slightly towards the Alaskan Nightmare.
"Lightwood what are you doing?!"
Someone yelled at me from the stands and that caught her attention, the she-dragon fired dozens of ice shards at me. I quickly covered my face, creating a white orb around me, acting like a force field. The dragon saw this and suddenly stopped, I looked up at the Alaskan Nightmare who had sat down and become completely calm. I took down the force field and came ever so slightly towards her.
"Hey it's ok.... I won't hurt you.... I am just like you.."
I held out my palm and exhaled deeply, please work.... The dragon looked at my palm for a moment before slowly coming towards me, my hand is about the size of her nail! I smiled and relaxed as the beast slowly came towards me. Just as she was about to touch my hand, a spell came flying past my face. I lost focus and my eyes went back to normal. The Alaskan Nightmare suddenly stood back and proceeded to roar at me, guess we will have to do this the hard way.... I ran up to a rock that was perched up and jumped onto the dragon's back. The Alaskan Nightmare was not happy with me in her back, as she moved quickly, yanking at the chain. I found my grip and made my way closer to her neck, once I reached it I pulled out my wand.
"Bombarda!!"
The chain shattered into pieces as I jumped off the dragon's back as it took to the sky. I rolled over on the ground and watched as it flew up into the air. Goodbye old friend.... I walked over to the egg and was about to pick it up when I heard a sound of flapping wings. I looked up to see the Alaskan Nightmare! It flew down to the ground as it looked down at me, moving closer each time. I beamed as I reached out my palm, the moment my palm touched her nose, a surge of energy ran through my veins. I felt my eyes glow white as my mark started to pulse, I smiled as I watched how my hair turned pure white, with my black streak still in the middle. As I was shocked by all of this, I didn't realise the voice in my head talking,
"Hello Dawn."
"Who are you??"
"My name is Esmerelda, I am the Mother of all Dragons. I have been captured but these wizards while my youngsters are left without a mother.... but you have freed me... so thank you...."
"Of course but.... how can I hear you??"
"Your family, Dawn, they are one with the mighty dragons and you Dawn, have bonded with me. You sacrificed getting the egg in time to release me from this captivity. Now? I can go back to my children in the far mountains, thank you Dawn... if you ever need me... I'll be in your head..."
"Thank you Esmerelda..."
I smiled as I watched Esmerelda fly away, I looked back at the egg and picked it up. As I did the crowd erupted into cheers. I exited the arena and was greeted by everyone. Draco ran up to me and swung me in his arms.
"I was so worried! I really thought that you were going to tame that dragon!"
I smiled at Draco before kissing his cheek.
"Well her name is Esmerelda and she is the Mother of all Dragons... I had to let her go back to her children... also who fired that shot at me?! It almost hit me!"
Draco sighed and held my waist,
"We don't know love.... but Dumbledore is furious, he's convinced it was a student, and if it was? Apparently they are getting expelled.."
I nodded slowly before going to brush my hair with my fingers, but something got it then way. I pulled out the thing in my hair to see a hair clip, in the shape of Esmerelda. I smiled slightly as I caressed her green jewelled eyes, you'll always be in my head.... thank you Esmerelda...
