How did it come to this? How could everyone and everything I cherish turn against us? Why can't they understand us as they did before all this unfolded? Where did the trust and love of those we hold dear go? Everything we did was for their benefit, as well as our son's, to shield them from the darkness that engulfed us. We sought peace in our new life, to leave behind the paths of dark and light cultivation, to forget it all. So why? Why did they pursue us and end our lives? Was their hatred so profound that they would resort to such actions? Have we been mistaken all along?

"Wei Ying...".

"I knew it was only a matter of time before they pursued us like the others, but I never imagined it would happen so quickly and with such relentless hostility. I hate to see you endure this again!". He exclaimed, his eyebrows knitted in anger.

"We must protect him, Wei Ying. He doesn't deserve to suffer as we have. We need to shield our son from their animosity and bitterness... even if it results in him forgetting and resenting us". she murmured, her voice tinged with sorrow.

"I understand, my love, our son will be protected...he'll be in great hands, the preparation is set... please don't worry, my precious Lily". He gasped for breath, cradling his bleeding and dying wife, alongside their son, who lay under a sleeping spell. As the Sect leaders approached to deliver the final blow to the Yiling Patriarch and his cherished wife, they remained unaware of their son's existence and the unborn child in her womb, four months along. The Patriarch was as gravely injured as she and was close to death from his wounds.

"Wei Ying! Meigui!". Someone called out as we heard footsteps rush towards us.

"We must finish this, Wei Ying... to protect him". she gasped, clinging to life a moment longer before death would claim her soul and usher her into eternal slumber.

"Of course, my Lily... Of course". He said, soon she took out her Golden Core and looked at their son with sadness and tears.

"Forgive us, my son, for having us as your parents, you're now stuck with our problems which we regret, we always wanted you to have the best life and be who you want to be-". The wife began to cough up blood, he held her closer as more tears streamed down his face.

"Meigui!". He cried out, anxiety gripping him, though he was already certain of her fate. Yet, the mere thought of her death terrified him to his very core.

"Wei Ying! Meigui!". He exclaimed with tears streaming down his face, he fell to his knees in worry and fear before his dying, cherished friends. His brother stood by with a look of sorrow, aware that they were too late. Behind them, the sounds of flames, smoke, and shouting grew steadily closer.

"Lan Zhan, Lan Huan, we're sorry we place such a burden on you, risking your life for us to protect our child". She spoke.

"Is that your-".

"Rest assured, Lan Zhan, her Golden Core has been purified. Our deepest hope is for them to trust us as you have. Since the birth of our son, we have altered our path-".

"But I suppose we were too deeply committed to turn back; our sole regret is that we didn't act sooner to avoid leaving our son behind, alone". She said as she held him close to her chest which was covered in blood.

"We can still turn things around!". He pleaded.

"Lan Zhan-".

"If we manage to have another conversation with them and explain that you've stopped using Dark Cultivation, then perhaps-"
