That guy was pretty weird, wasn't he? He talked to that Pokémon like it was a person, and he didn't even tell you his name.
You notice a crowd gathering in the center of town, so you go to check it out.
Cheren and Bianca are there too, and they're equally confused. The three of you stand in a little group amongst the crowd.
Atop a nearby hill, there's a strange-looking man giving a speech. He's wearing bulky purple and yellow robes with a crown-like collar. The collar drapes over his shoulders and bears a strange symbol with a blue P. He also has long green hair and a strange red monocle over one eye.
A bunch of people in identical uniforms surround him, some of them holding flags with that same symbol.
"Greetings, citizens of Accumula Town," he says. "I am Ghetsis, and I have a few things I'd like to share with you."
Ghetsis, or so the man calls himself, has a demeanor that captures everyone's attention.
You try to look over to your friends to see what they think of him, but you're so hooked on his every word you can't even look away.
"Pokémon and people have been working together forever," he goes on. "But we as trainers are holding them back! Pokémon need to be liberated from their trainers in order to unlock their true potential!"
The crowd is sent into murmurs.
"Holding them back?"
"Liberated?
"But I grew up with my Stoutland!"
You manage to tear your eyes away from Ghetsis to look at your friends.
Cheren pushes his glasses up, and they glint, indicating his thoughts whirling around his head as they try to find a solution.
Ghetsis starts again, stealing your attention. "And let's not forget, everyday countless Pokémon are abused and mistreated by their trainers! In a world like this, it's better if people and Pokémon are separated!"
Bianca's holding Tepig in her arms, and her grip tightens just a little. "But...I just got to know this little one. I don't want to be separated from it."
Tepig squeals, blowing a gentle shot of smoke into her face.
"Don't worry, Bianca," Cheren says. "I bet that Ghetsis guy only meant people who are actually hurting their Pokémon."
"Please think about what I've said today, citizens of Accumula Town."
The crowd disperses, and Ghetsis steps down from the hill, followed by all the people in the uniforms.
Your Snivy pops out of its Pokéball, as does Cheren's Oshawott. Tepig jumps out of its trainers arms and the three of them run around you, seemingly chattering with each other.
"Wouldn't it be cool if we could understand what they were saying?" Bianca says, crouching down and watching them.
"So you can't hear them. How sad," someone says.
The three of you look up and see that stranger from before! The pretty one!
"Oh, it's you!" you say without thinking.
"You know this guy?" Cheren asks.
"...Sort of."
The stranger couches down next to Bianca and lets your Pokémon smell his hand before petting them. He closes his eyes. "Is that what you think? You seem awfully close to these trainers even though you've only been with them for a little while."
