( THREE YEARS AFTER THE SECOND WIZARDING WAR )

Ministry of Magic, May 2nd of 2001

Lillian had received a numerous amount of gifts and notes for her birthday. Flowers sent from Harry would pop on her desk every fifteen minutes, yes, she had timed it to avoid another heart attack. Hermione had given her a warm embrace, sneaking a necklace that contained a picture of them four during their first year at Hogwarts which later caused Lillian to shed some tears in the Department of Mysteries. And Ron had decided to place magical balloons that would explode whenever Lillian would walk past them, revealing some of the most unflattering pictures of her alongside Ron's voice chanting her a happy birthday, completely off-tune of course. After the tenth balloon, Lillian wasn't even embarrassed anymore, she would actually stop, laugh at herself, and enjoy the song that would resonate through the entire Ministry of Magic.

Lillian walked inside her office to retrieve her purse before going out for lunch when she noticed a small package on her desk. It was wrapped in an emerald green paper with a small golden bow in the corner. She carefully unwrapped the present and smiled, sitting on the nearest chair.

It was a book. But not just any book. It was the Advanced Potion Making. The one she had studied way before her sixth year because she had received it as a Christmas present. The one she had thrown away in her bedroom the day Draco cut ties with her through a small letter. The one she had inexplicably lost but never needed it anyways because she had studied it so hard she remembered every single page printed inside.

Lillian opened the book to find a picture of her, in the boathouse, her feet dangling in the cold water as she pulls funny faces at the person taking the picture. Lillian put the picture aside, pulling out a note.

Dear Lillian,

I was going through some old stuff from Hogwarts when I discovered I was the one who had the book I had offered you a few years ago. I thought you would like to get it back and your birthday was coming up so I used that as an excuse. I know this isn't very original so I added a picture I never thought I'd be able to separate myself from but I don't think you own any memories of us. Now you do.

I'm sorry if this comes across as inappropriate, I just felt nostalgic today. And I know I can tell you, you'd understand.

I also wanted to congratulate you on everything. Your job at the Ministry and all the changes you are bringing into our world, your investment at Hogwarts, your future wedding... You truly are one of the brightest person I have ever crossed path with and I am more than glad to see you getting the recognition you deserve.

I wish you a very happy birthday,

Draco
