Chapter 2: Atlantia

When I awoke the next morning, I noticed I was a mess but it was a quick fix with my powers. There was a small part of me that knew this was wrong but I couldn't force myself to listen to it. So I used my powers to hide any evidence of the breakdown before heading toward the kitchen to help Molly with breakfast.

The week flew by with how much stuff Molly wanted to do with me and her family before we headed off to Hogwarts. It was fun but also emotionally draining because I had to hide any of the times my powers began to act up when I saw memories I didn't want to experience again. When it was finally time for us to head to King Cross Station, we climbed into the Ministry cars that Mr. Weasley had requested. Since the battle at Hogwarts, Mr. Weasley had gotten multiple promotions so he is now a pretty important member of the Ministry which is something that he deserved and I could tell that he and Molly were proud of that promotion.

Once we arrived at the station, it felt so weird to be here again after what happened but it also felt good to know that I can return to Hogwarts with my new family without any danger. However, I could deal without the finger pointing and looks that the new Hogwarts students were giving me. I gave a hug to Mrs. Weasley before dragging my chest onto the train. I wish I could go back to the demigod life where I saved the world but in secret. It is so much better then people knowing that you did something like that.

It took me a while to find an open compartment since there were actually a lot of new Hogwarts students and not just first years. We had a bunch joining in each year so I guess I shouldn't be too surprised that it took me a while to find a compartment. Harry, Ron, Ginny, and Hermione all joined me in the compartment. They knew I was saving the other seat for Blaise so they helped me politely tell the other students to leave when they tried to take that seat until Blaise came in.

Blaise had smiled when he saw me and gave me a small kiss before greeting the others. For the journey, we all talked about the courses we were excited to learn about without any side distractions. Blaise and I were also grilled for information on our relationship especially by Ginny and Hermione who were looking out for me which I appreciated. When the train began to slow, I glanced out the window and saw that we had arrived at Hogwarts and to my pleasant surprise, Hagrid was still coming out to greet and bring the first-years to the Great Hall. Once the train stopped, Blaise got up and held out his arm for me reminding me of the one time he did that during year six but that brought back sad memories of my Slytherin friends so my mood immediately went down. However I hid my mood change quickly so Blaise and the others didn't notice.

"First-years 'ver here." Hagrid called out as everyone stepped off the train. "Hey Atlantia, Harry!" He called out when he saw us stepping off the train. "See yah at the feast!" We all wave as we made our way to the carriages. I knew that all of us were able to see the Thestrals since we have all seen death due to last year. The six of us get into a carriage and for the first time since the Battle of Hogwarts I spot Draco, Pansy, and Millicent as they stepped out of the Hogwarts Express. I make eye contact with Draco and I felt heartbroken again. He looked at me with a hopeful look but I couldn't amend our friendship at the moment so I looked away but I felt guilty for doing so.

Once the carriage stopped, I followed the crowd through the main door of Hogwarts and stopped immediately when I saw what was in the main hallway. In the center of the hallway was a statue of Dumbledore. Underneath the statue was a small plaque that read:

Albus Dumbledore
"We are only as strong as we are united, and as weak as we are divided."

I smiled at that quote and felt a small tear drop as I remember one of the lives that I was unable to save from permanent death. Blaise gently pulled on my arm to alert me that we must get going. We along with Harry, Hermione, Ginny, and Ron were the only ones left standing there. Together we all walked to the Great Hall where we saw the sorting had already begun. We sheepishly made our way to our House tables, Blaise and I to Slytherin and the others to Gryffindor as the sorting continued. Headmaster McGonagall nodded at us silently signaling that she understood why we were late. When the sorting was over, McGonagall stood up at her table and began to speak.

"Welcome to all our new students and welcome back for the returning students. I won't say much before we all have had a chance to be fed but I will say this." McGonagall said smiling at us, "Let the feast begin." Cheers are let out as the food appears and the feast begins. It felt like old times as I laughed with my fellow Slytherins but of course it was different with Draco and the others not being right there with me.

When the feast was over, Headmaster McGonagall stood once again to speak to us, "Again, I welcome you to Hogwarts and hope you have enjoyed that magnificent feast. The last few years at Hogwarts have been rough as many of you know but this year we are determined to start again. There are still a few parts of the school being rebuilt and redesigned since the battle, so those corridors will be forbidden to enter. Also we have some changes in professors this year. Professor Snape will be returning to be our Defense Against the Arts professor." She gestures to him who was sitting close to the end of the table. He gives a curt nod toward us which was his signature greeting. "Our potions class, however, will be taught by Atlantia Brooks, one of our fellow students returning for her seventh year at Hogwarts." I whip my head toward her when I hear that my jaw dropped. How could I teach a potions class? I barely understand how potions work and I only do because of Apollo teaching me how to make some of them for his medicine cabinet

My feelings weren't share by my fellow students.  They let out a huge cheer when they heard that I was the potions teacher. The Slytherins around me jumped up and congratulated me on the job.

"Yes, it is very exciting that she will be our potions teacher but for now, it is time to follow your prefects to your house's common room for a good night's rest before tomorrow classes." Headmaster McGonagall said dismissing us. As I made my way to the professor's table, I could hear the prefects all calling to the first years to follow them. McGonagall was waiting for me when I had finally made my way to the table.

"You are wondering why I didn't ask or tell you, Atlantia." McGonagall said gently. I nod, "Well, originally I had not planned on having you teach but no one is willing to be the potions teacher so the only one I could think of who was qualified and already coming to Hogwarts was you."

"I mean I am fine teaching even though I don't think I am qualified to do this but how will it work with my other class or am I a professor now so no other classes?" I ask.

"So, your schedule has been modified to allow you to teach and make it around to your classes. I have already asked the other professors to be lenient on your homework especially with you having to grade and prepare for class." McGonagall answered as the other professors nodded their agreement. "And to help you, here is a syllabus for you to guide you as you plan your classes. You don't need to follow it to the letter but it can help give you a rough estimate on what each year needs to learn." I nod my head as I take the book before wishing them a good night and following Blaise to our common room to prepare for the next day.
