Billie's pov
Instead of taking Ava straight home, I decided to take her someplace else. I was still feeling a little guilty for wrecking her car and the fact that she can't know it was me made it worse.
"You still haven't told me where you're taking me."
"Honestly? I have no clue either." I kept my eyes on the road and hands on the steering wheel. "Got anyplace in mind?"
"Ice cream sound great right now." Ava suggested and I nodded my head.
"Ice cream it is."
We rerouted you the nearest ice cream shop and parked the car. It wasn't a problem seeing as the parking lot was nearly empty. Right away, I caught a scent. It smelled like the we're I had killed last night and I knew in my gut, it wasn't good.
"I-I think we should go somewhere else." I stuttered nervously, looking over to Ava yo see her already staring back at me with furrowed eyebrows.
"Why? Something wrong?" She asked with concern laced in her voice.
"I think we should just go—" I was cut off by a voice. A deep gruff voice that sent chills down my spine. The scent getting stronger and stronger. The strength of the scent, though, was too strong to be a single wolf, letting me know that there are others. Hiding somewhere.
"Is this your car?" The voice said. "A Dodge Challenger, right?"
No matter how worried I was in this moment, I refused to let him see me weak. So, I stood up straighter, leveling my chin with the ground and looked the man straight in the eyes as he "checked out my car".
"That's right. You looking to buy one?" I was trying to make small talk to keep him talking. The more he talks, the better I can sense his level of authority in his pack.
The man shook his head. "Not me. My brother." He said as he also stood up straight and looked me dead in the eyes. "You haven't seen him around, have you?"
I looked back at Ava to see her inspecting our interactions with worry and confusion. I turned back to the man and shrugged my shoulders. "Sorry, man. Haven't seen him."
Then, the man growled so deep, it was a tone only active werewolves could here. All it took was that single, low growl for me to finally realize what this man was.
He was the Alpha.
He took one step towards me and leaned his head closer to my ear. "You don't know who you're talking to, little girl. I can smell his blood on you, so I know you killed him!"
I tried my best to not falter my front as this man spoke. My breath was picking up, and chills ran down my body, a sign that my wolf was about to come out.
"Hey! Back off bitch!" My eyes widened at Ava's voice. Mine and the man's heads both snapped to Ava who was now making her way around the car to us.
I shook my head frantically, telling her to back down.
"My dad owns a gun, so I suggest you get to steppin' or I'll smoke you!"
Oh my god, Ava, stop it!
"Looks like your girlfriend's got more balls than you." The man laughed, then his voice turned serious as he looked into my eyes again. "Don't think I'll ever forget about this. I'm coming for you." He glared into my eyes viciously, letting me know that he means every word. "You took one of mine...I'm coming to take one of yours."
I looked at Ava who still held a mean face and looked back at the man in front of me. I glared into his eyes as hard as I could, my eyes burning a little bit, letting me know that my eyes were in my wolf color. "Fuck you."
The man laughed and shook his head. "We'll see how tough you are soon enough."
I watched as he walked further away from us. I noticed a few other people emerge from behind things and followed him. I sighed deeply and turned to look at Ava who was now looking at me.
"What was that about?" She asked.
I just opened my car door and got into the drivers seat.
"Nothing you wanna know."
