My Little Dragon

Chapter 1

Ruby woke up groggily from a rooster outside. She slowly got out of her bed the hay swishing as she did so. She climbed down the small ladder leading to the first floor. Her father was in the small kitchen. "Good morning sweetheart how'd you sleep?" Tai asked giving her some bread. "I slept fine father I have a meeting with the howling wolves!" Ruby said excitedly. Tai scoffed "ever since those dragon hunters came to this town they think they can just do whatever...I still don't trust them," Tai said gruffly as he bit into his bread.
Ruby rolled her eyes playfully "c'mon father they're not all bad plus dragons are monsters and they need to be taken care of and the howling wolves are willing to do what no one else will...and I'm gonna be one of them!" Ruby cheered grabbing her syphe. Tai chuckled "just please don't get eaten," Tai said playfully. Ruby waved as she ran out the door. She walked down the path in the village.
Other people waved since she had lived here since she was born. She walked by the blacksmith which is where her sister worked. She walked in to see her sister. "Hey sis glad you can come by!" Yang said happily from behind the counter. Ruby smiled "I'm great today is my first day of being a howling wolf!" Ruby cheered happily.
Yang chuckled "just be careful sis you don't wanna be dragon food," yang joked with a smirk.
Ruby smirked "I can take care of myself," Ruby said confidently.
Yang chuckled "I gotta go I'll see you later!" Ruby called turning and running to the howling wolves building. Ruby knocked on the door and a big burly man opened it. Ruby felt slightly intimidated by him "h...hello...I'm a new member...n...nice to meet you..." Ruby stuttered extending her hand. He smiled and shook her hand causing Ruby to shake from how strong he was.
Ruby was a little dizzy from the handshake. "C'mon in I'm clover," clover greeted letting her in. Ruby walked in admiring the wall full of monster heads like dragons, werewolves and other stuff like that. Ruby was to astonished to notice the other members of the howling wolves. Ruby noticed them and waved still a bit nervous. She got to know all of them the one guy she liked the most was marrow. He was not much older than her and was alot less serious and was pretty goofy. After a few weeks of being a member and joining them on a few of their missions someone came in with a request. The man wore a hood so Ruby couldn't really see his face. "I have a mission for you it's about a dragon," he said surprising Ruby. "It live up on the mountain in a cave I want it dead," he said gruffly. Ruby was excited her first solo mission "yes I'll do it," Ruby said confidently and excitedly. The man smiled handing her a pouch of coins. Ruby put it in her bag as she watched the man leave.

Ruby was packing some things she needed for her journey to the mountain. Her father was a little worried "please tell me you'll be careful," he said in a worried tone. Ruby smiled putting the bag on "I'll be fine father," Ruby said with a smile. Ruby hugged her dad "love you dad," Ruby said with a smile. Tai smiled "love you too sweetheart," Tai said as Ruby walked to the door.
She waved as she set out to the mountain.

After a few days of traveling Ruby had made it to the dragons cave. She stopped for a moment pulling up her hood. She pulled out her syphe slowly sneaking into the cave. She hid behind a rock and there she saw the dragon. It was pure white with about four horns but one of them was cracked. It had a scar over her left eye. "Wow it's huge..." Ruby thought as she slowly snuck closer. Her foot kicked a small ice crystal causing a loud clatter sound. Ruby froze as the dragon woke up. It growled lowly as it stood up. It noticed the girl in red. Ruby trembling slightly now realizing how gigantic the dragon was. She dodged as the beast stomped her foot were Ruby was.
Ruby ran up a few crystals to get onto the dragons back. She was about to slice into the beast but it shook her off. She fell to the ground with a thud. Ruby grunted as she struggled to stand. The beast inhaled using it's frost breath. Ruby ducked behind a few crystals. She panted peeking from behind the large ice crystals.
The beast roared as it sniffed the air. Ruby looked to exit she needed her bow. It was in her bag so she dashed for the exit. The dragon saw her and stomped causing the cave to tremble. A large ice spike fell from the ceiling crashing infront of her. Ruby fell back her head colliding with a rock. Blood dripped from her head she slowly began to black out. The last thing she saw was the beast approaching her. "I'm going to die on my first mission..." Ruby thought weakly as she blacked out.
