My Little Dragon

Chapter 5

Weiss was the first to wake the next morning. She yawned sitting up she looked over to Ruby. Ruby was trembling "no...no leave me alone...stop....I...it hurts...stop..." Ruby cried in her sleep trembling. Weiss was surprised as she reached her hand out and began to shake Ruby. Ruby woke up with a jolt tears slowly welling up in her eyes.
Ruby slowly looked at Weiss who had a worried look on her face. Ruby trembled "Ruby...are you ok?' Weiss  asked slowly reached out to hold her friend. Ruby began to cry as she launched herself into Weiss's arms. Ruby cried into Weiss's shoulder holding onto her. Weiss held her friend as she felt her shoulder getting wet from Ruby's tears. "Ruby...what's wrong...?" Weiss asked the moon shining down on them.
"I...I just had a...bad nightmare..." Ruby muttered shutting her eyes. Weiss was surprised remembering her own experiences with nightmares although hers will filled with...fire and death. "Do you wanna talk about it...?" Weiss asked still holding her sniffling friend. "I...it was back when...I still lived in my village...I was bullied for my eyes...and because I didn't want to be a soldier...so the other kids would beat me up..." Ruby muttered looking at her knees. Weiss was surprised but pulled Ruby into another hug.
Ruby tensed up slightly for a few seconds but soon melted into her touch. "...I won't let anyone hurt you Ruby...I promise..." Weiss whispered holding her friend close.
Ruby blushed as Weiss held her "...thank you Weiss...I'll protect you too..." Ruby responded feeling her heart beat quicken. The two pulled away both blushing Ruby wiped her eyes. "T...thanks Weiss for comforting me I appreciate it," Ruby thanked as she glanced at Weiss's wagging tail.
"No problem...what...what are friends for," Weiss said with a smile. Ruby felt her heart sink a bit when Weiss said friends. "Y...yeah..." Ruby said with a small sad smile.

The next morning all four teens woke up early and got ready for a long day of walking. "Alright team RWBY let's go!" Ruby said in a cheery tone. The other three girls were confused "team RWBY?" Weiss asked looking up from the map. "Yeah! Me, Weiss, Blake, and yang! Take the first letters of our names and boom! Team RWBY!" Ruby explained with a large goofy grin.
Yang chuckled while Weiss just shook her head. "C'mon let's go the sanctuary should be about one maybe two weeks walk," Ruby said with a small groan. They walked Ruby leading the way with enthusiasm.
Yang was kinda bored as she walked she looked at Weiss. Weiss was clearly staring at Ruby her cheeks growing red. Yang began to see the picture she smirked at Blake who could also see the signs. "They're so gay," yang whispered to her dragon girlfriend.
Blake smirked "so are we," Blake joked with a wink causing the blonde brute to blush. 

They stopped for a break about an hour later. Ruby sat by the river the water was crystal clear. "Hey guys how about we swim because I don't know about you guys, but I haven't had a bath in almost two weeks," Ruby said with a small laugh. Yang smirked "I'm down I haven't bathed in a while," yang said beginning to take off her shirt. Ruby did the same causing Weiss's cheeks to burn as Ruby's abs came into view. Blake smirked at her reaction "first time seeing your crushes abs?" Blake asked with a smirk. Weiss's burned so bright it could light up a moonless night. "S...SHUT UP!" Weiss shouted as a loud slash echoed. Blake and Weiss turned to look at their friends and they both froze and blushed brightly.

"You guys should come in the water feels amazing!" Ruby called with a large smile.

Blake heard a thud next to her. Blake looked down seeing Weiss on the ground a blushing mess and blood dripped from her nose. "W...we're lucky there aren't any sharks in the water..." Blake joked as she wiped her nose. Weiss wiped her nose staring at Ruby as she splashed in the water. "This girl is gonna be the death of me..." Weiss thought as she tried to steady her heartbeat.
"C'mon Weiss!" Ruby called like a small child. Weiss inhaled and began taking off her cloths.

After they got done they all dried off Ruby's hair puffed up like a dog after a bath. Weiss couldn't help but giggled "what's so funny?" Ruby asked obliviously. Weiss took a brush from her bag "hold still," Weiss instructed beginning to comb her friends hair.
Ruby sat still as Weiss brushed her messy hair. Yang and Blake were too busy trying to get Blake into the water. "How are you so good at brushing hair Weiss?" Ruby asked with a grin. Weiss hesitated for a moment before she answered "my sister and I would braid our hair and give each other makeovers it was always so much fun..." Weiss answered in a slightly sad tone. "I didn't know you have a sister Weiss do you know where she is?" Ruby asked hoping she wouldn't upset Weiss with her question. Weiss went silence filling Ruby with regret for asking a touchy question. "She...she died nine years ago...when I lived in a small caravan of dragons...and one day we were...attack and my family was killed...I only managed to get away because of my butler Klein..." Weiss whispered the memories replaying in her mind.
Ruby turned around and pulled Weiss into a hug. Weiss was surprised by the sudden contact but slowly wrapped her arms around Ruby. "I lost a member of my family too..." Ruby mumbled pulling away the two moving over to sit under a tree.
"When I was a kid...my mother was a hunter...even though she was I could tell even at that age she didn't have the heart for it she was a softy who felt bad killing a bug heh..." Ruby smiled at the memory's. "But then...one day she left for a mission and...never came back...I never even got to say goodbye...I fell asleep before she could tell me goodbye...and...nothing has ever been the same..." Ruby whispered fighting back tears. Weiss looked at her with understanding in her eyes. "I know my loss may not be as...severe as yours but...it hurt...honestly...I don't even remember what my mother look like I was way too young...but I think she'd be proud of me if she was still here...I just wanna help people like she did..." Ruby said leaning into the tree. Weiss gave her a soft smile "I think she would be proud of you...and if she was anything like you than I know she was a great person," Weiss complimented with a grin.
Ruby shot her a small smile "if I may ask...what were your parents like...?" Ruby asked with curiosity lacing her voice. Weiss thought for a moment "my mother was very kind...in her own way and my father was strict but I could tell he cared and just wanted to keep me safe...we were constantly being hunter he had to be strict...and my sister was also strict but was very caring and last was my brother he was only five when we were attacked...and I was eight when I lost them...and ever since then I was alone..." Weiss whispered her tone lowering. Ruby held Weiss's hand "you're not alone anymore Weiss! You have me, Blake, and yang and you'll always have us were a team now," Ruby said comfortingly with a grin. Weiss smiled wiping a few tears away "thank you Ruby..." Weiss whispered feeling her heart flutter.

That night Weiss slept in her dragon form which surprised Ruby. Everyone fell asleep except for Ruby who couldn't fall asleep. Ruby glanced over  at her sleeping dragon friend. She sat up continuing to stare at Weiss. Ruby blushed as she stared at Weiss's sleeping face. Ruby thought about Weiss "why...whenever I think about her I...fell fuzzy and warm...ugh...these stupid confusing feelings..." Ruby groaned in her head as she ruffled her hair. Ruby stood up walking over to Weiss slowly sitting down. She leaned against Weiss feeling her warmth. She slowly closed her eyes finally able to fall asleep. Early in the morning Weiss wine up for no reason. Weiss looked around and slowly looked down at Ruby who was still leaning against her sleeping peacefully. Weiss blushed as Ruby snuggled closer in her sleep. Weiss smiled slowly laying her head back down falling back asleep.

All four girls walked down the path chatting about stuff from books.

Ruby suddenly stopped holding out her arm signaling for her friends to stop. Ruby put her finger to her lips signaling for them to be quiet. She pulled out crescent rose causing yang and Blake to pull out theirs.
Ruby narrowed her eyes as twigs snapped in the treeline. Suddenly an arrow flew past Ruby's face grazing her cheek slightly. "Ruby are you ok!?" Weiss asked as Ruby's cheek bled. "I'm fine weapons ready!" Ruby commanded as a group of bandits came from the trees.
"Bandits..." Ruby whispered to her team as the bandits leader stepped forward. "There's a toll here kids...pay up or thing will get ugly..." He threatened his blue and green eyes staring them down. Ruby stepped forward "no, we aren't paying shit...now back off...or else," Ruby threatened her grip on crescent rose tightening. The leaders eyes wandered to Weiss and Blake. "Hm...are those dragons...?...I thought those beast were extinct...that means they have a good price boys," he called to his men. Ruby and yang growled "tell you two what...give us the dragons and you can leave," he offered with a sinister smirk. Ruby growled "you won't lay a finger on their heads now I suggest you leave before you lose some limbs." Ruby threatened her usual sweet tone disappearing and was replaced with a cold, serious tone which shocked Weiss. His smirk disappeared "you've got some language for a toddler," he said bluntly. He sighed "kill them," he said as his goons ran to them. Ruby fought a small group of them fighting as hard as she could. Blake and yang were holding their own while Weiss transformed into a dragon freezing half the goons. Ruby dodged a attack from a goon as she watched Weiss fly.
One goon managed to hit Ruby in the stomach causing her to fly back. Ruby coughed up some blood as the weapon she was hit with was sharp not a blade but sharp enough for her to cough up blood. Weiss from across the path noticed and rage filled her body. As she flew up towards Ruby. She landed over Ruby creating a protective cage around her. She roared loudly as she stood over Ruby growling as she inhaled for frost. Suddenly before she could freeze all of the attackers a spear impaled her side. Ruby gasped as blood dripped down to the grass. Weiss whimpered in pain as she transformed back falling to the ground. "WEISS!" Ruby screamed running to catch her friend.
Yang and Blake took care of the rest of the goons leading them away from the two. Ruby held Weiss in her arms "...r...Ruby...it...hurts....everything is...dizzy..." Weiss mumbled blood dripping from her mouth. Tears fell from Ruby's eyes "you're gonna be ok Weiss I'm going to get you help!" Ruby yelled ripping her cloak to wrap around Weiss's wound.
Ruby finished tying the fabric around Weiss's wound which helped stop the bleeding temporarily. "Please just stay awake Weiss I...I won't let you die!" Ruby yelled her tears falling to the ground. Weiss gave her a small smile "Ruby...you...dolt...you're such a...bad lier...heh...I...I wanna tell you something..." Weiss said gasping slightly. "W...what...?" Ruby asked still crying. "I...I love you...I have for a while...I...I'm sorry I was to afraid to show it...I love...you..." Weiss whispered her eyes closing. Her hand which was resting on Ruby's cheek fell limp. "no...no...no...NO!" Ruby screamed hugging Weiss's cold body.
