Ruby felt wind rush through her hair as she Weiss flew through the air. "This is so cool!" Ruby cheered as she looked down. Weiss closed her eyes "yes, I suppose it is quite cool," Weiss said in a simple tone. Ruby looked at the sunset "it's getting late we should land and set up camp," Ruby suggested yawning slightly. Weiss didn't say anything but began landing. Ruby hopped off of Weiss's back and landed on the ground. She stretched out her limbs "I'll get some fire wood," Ruby said pulling out her syphe. After Ruby was done she placed the fire wood into place. "Can you light the fire?" Ruby asked looking to Weiss. "No, I am a frost dragon I can only produce ice," Weiss answered with a unamused tone. Ruby frowned thinking of how to light the fire. "Hmmmm...oh! I know!" Ruby said running off to go look for something. Weiss watched her run off "what a...loud girl...this will be a interesting journey..." Weiss thought as she walked over to the small river. She looked at her reflection more specifically her scar. She stared at herself feeling horrible memories flood back. A few moments later Ruby returned carrying two rocks. Weiss was curious so she sat back down on the fallen tree. Ruby bashed the two rocks together trying to make a spark.
After a few attempts a small spark hit the wood causing a small flame to brew. "Yes!" Ruby cheered blowing on the flame to make it bigger. The fire grew as Ruby stared at her creation proudly. Weiss couldn't help but let a small smirk grow on her lips. Suddenly the young dragons stomach rumbled. It was so loud even Ruby noticed. "You hungry?" Ruby asked with a grin. Weiss slowly nodded feeling slightly embarrassed. "Yeah..." Weiss replied in a small voice.
Ruby's stomach grumbled as well "I am too..." Ruby chuckled slightly. She turned to the river pulling out her syphe. "Looks like we're having fish," Ruby said walking to the river. She spent a few minutes slicing at the water for fish. Eventually after what felt like ages Ruby caught some fish. She held them proudly "dinner!" Ruby called excitedly as she walked over to the fire. She cooked the fish while humming a small tune. Weiss watched her every move still not one hundred percent trusting of the human. When the fish were done Ruby handed a fish on a stick to Weiss. "here I hope it's...edible...I'm not much of a cook..." Ruby chuckled slightly as Weiss took the food.
Ruby dug into the fish since she was extremely hungry. Weiss watched her for a few seconds before she began to eat as well. It was actually pretty good. "It's...actually pretty good Ruby...thank you," Weiss thanked letting herself smile. Ruby gasped "you smiled!" Ruby cheered happily. Weiss became flustered as she looked back to the fish. They both at in silence Ruby stared at the stars humming that same tune from earlier. Weiss listened "she has a nice voice..." Weiss thought finishing her fish. "We should get some rest," Ruby said placing down her bag as a pillow. Weiss nodded climbing up into a tree. Ruby was confused "uh...why are you sleeping in a tree?" Ruby asked in confusion. "I don't like sleeping on the ground...it's safer if I'm hidden..." Weiss responded Ruby could hear a slight bit of sadness in her voice.
Ruby felt bad "you're safe with me Weiss! I'm not gonna let anyone hurt you even though you could probably hold you own in a fight," Ruby said as she lied on the ground.
"Hm...you got that right," Weiss said confidently. Ruby chuckled "goodnight Weiss," Ruby said lying down and closing her eyes. "Goodnight...Ruby..." Weiss said closing her eyes as well.

The next morning Weiss was the first to wake. She was confused for a moment she was used to waking up in her cold cave...alone. She looked down seeing Ruby all spread out and snoring slightly a small bit of drool falling from her mouth. Weiss couldn't help but chuckle slightly.
Weiss hopped down from the tree the thud waking up Ruby. She bolted up "I'm awake!" She yelled bringing up her hands in a karate like way.
Weiss rolled her eyes "good morning..." Weiss said stretching her arms. Ruby rubbed her eyes looking to Weiss "heh heh good morning Weiss!" Ruby cheered standing up. Weiss smiled "well were are we going now?" Weiss asked washing her face in the river. Ruby thought for a moment "well it'll be alot harder to find without a map," Ruby said beginning to contemplate on what to do. "Could you fly us to a town?" Ruby asked with excitement. Weiss sighed "no it's to risky someone could see me and shoot me down," Weiss explained. Ruby began to think she sighed "I guess we follow the path until we hit something," Ruby said picking up her bag. Weiss sighed following behind Ruby. Ruby stopped she took off her cape "here, it'll hide you horns," Ruby said handing Weiss her hood. Weiss took it and put it on "...thank you," Weiss said putting it on.
The two walked down the path Ruby was looking around. "I've never been this far away from home before..." Ruby said looking straight forward but Weiss could see the sadness in her eyes. "Neither have I...but my cave isn't exactly the safest anymore..." Weiss said as her bare feet hit the dirt.
Ruby saw smoke "hey look smoke!" Ruby said running ahead. Weiss sighed "what a dolt..." Weiss mumbled chasing after her. Ruby was ducked behind a rock peeking up and looking at something. Weiss knelt beside her "look it's a village," Ruby said excitedly. "Well if there's a village There's a map c'mon!" Ruby said grabbing Weiss's hand. No one paid them mind as they walked through the village. Ruby walked into the store while Weiss waited by the door.
"Hi there what can I do you for?" The shopkeeper ask as Ruby walked to the counter. "Can I get a map and some food and water?" Ruby asked looking through her bag for the pouch of coins her father gave her.
She hesitated looking at the pouch "dad..." Ruby thought sadly as she gave the man the money.
Ruby took her goods and walked back outside where Weiss was still waiting. "Got the goods," Ruby said with a wink. Weiss shot her a small smile. "It's getting late so we should check inn to the in," Ruby said pointing to the inn. Weiss nodded following Ruby a few people glanced at her but went back to doing what they were doing. Weiss felt strange she was so used to being chased out of villages not just simply walking through them.

Ruby and Weiss stood in the lobby of the inn. "How can I help you two fine ladies?" The inn keeper asked kindly. Ruby handed him some coins "one room please," Ruby asked with a smile. The man handed them a key. "Thanks," Ruby said as they walked to their room. Ruby tossed her bag on the chair and fell onto the bed. "ahhh...a bed so comfy!" Ruby said rolling on the bed. Weiss sighed with a small smile. "Weiss have you ever slept on a bed before?" Ruby asked taking on her boots. Weiss merely shook her head as she sat on the surprisingly comfortable bed. Ruby took out some cloths from her bag "here I bought you some cloths so you can blend in a little better," Ruby said warmly handing the young dragon the cloths.
Weiss put the cloths on and walked four of the bathroom. Ruby's eyes widened "wow! You look so cool!" Ruby said excitedly.

Weiss looked down at her cloths "huh

Weiss looked down at her cloths "huh...not bad I guess," Weiss said looking back up to Ruby.
Ruby smiled "I'm glad they fit," Ruby said yawning. "I'm beat if you don't mind I'm gonna head to bed goodnight," Ruby said with a grin as she lied in bed. Weiss did the same "goodnight..." Weiss whispered lying down.
In the middle of the night Weiss awoke to use the bathroom. When she was done she realized Ruby wasn't in bed. "Where is she...?" Weiss wondered a bit worried. Weiss looked around the room for the younger girl but she was no where in sight. Weiss sighed putting on her clothes and walking out of the inn. She walked down the main street of the village no one else was around. She looked around sniffing the air for Ruby's scent. She followed Ruby's scent which in her eyes was a red trail. She followed it until in the distance she saw Ruby sitting on a bench near the towns fountain. She stepped closer only to hear sniffing "Ruby...?" Weiss called causing the red tipped brunette to jump. She turned her head quickly her eyes wide. "W...Weiss! What are you doing here?" Ruby asked surprised. "I could ask you the same thing..." Weiss asked crossing her arms. Ruby looked back to the fountain. Weiss sighed letting herself soften up. She sat beside the taller girl "what happened..." Weiss asked in a less harsher tone. Ruby noticed the much softer voice she had taken and sighed. "I...I just...had a nightmare..." Ruby muttered not looking into Weiss's icy blue gaze. "What...what was it about?" Weiss asked with a patient and soft voice.
"...my dad...I...I just miss him I guess...we left so suddenly....and I never got a chance to say goodbye and...that pouch of money I spent was the last thing he gave me..." Ruby whispered sadly as she looked at her shoes. Weiss felt sorry for her she was used to being alone but she could tell Ruby wasn't. Weiss wasn't very good with people but without really thinking her body acted on its own. Weiss hugged Ruby suddenly surprising the brunette human. Ruby was frozen in shock for a few seconds but eventually she hugged back. Ruby felt her heart beat quicken as Weiss hugged her. Weiss pulled back her expression looking like what Ruby could only describe as...warm. Weiss grinned for the first time since she met Ruby. "I know you miss your family but we're on an important mission and...once we get to the sanctuary you...you'll go back to your family..." Weiss said looking at the fountain. Ruby smiled "thanks for making me feel better Weiss...we should head back," Ruby said standing up. Weiss smiled "yeah..." They both walked back to the inn.

"It's gonna be a long journey..."
