"Charlie." I gasped. We'd been driving for about 15 minutes into town, and finally stopped once we'd reached the town center. There stood the tallest Christmas tree I'd seen in my life.

"I heard one of the people at the party talking about how the town does an annual Christmas tree gathering, and I thought I'd take you." He shyly said. I grinned at him.

"I came here every year as a child." I said, almost crying. "But everytime we went my mom made me stay in the car with my dad. Said she didnt want me causing any trouble. Then she'd take Beverly and buy her hot chocolate and they'd get to stand under the tree and take pictures, then go shopping in the town square. I'd always sit and admire the tree as best I could from the car."

Charlie just sat quietly, listening to me and never looking away.

"Well I think it's time we change that, isn't it?" He broke the silence, grabbing my hand. I smiled and nodded.

I stood in awe under the massive Christmas tree. The yellow lights sparkling down on me and Charlie. I looked up at him to see he was already looking at me, smiling.

"This better than the party?"

"Much better." I giggled. I looked around at all of the families laughing, running, and talking. I couldn't help but frown.

"That's not a good face. Still cute, but not good." Charlie said, moving to face me.

"I just wonder where I went wrong. Why do they hate me?"

He nodded, knowing I was referring to my family.

"I dont know, honestly. You're an amazing, kind hearted person and I cant believe you came from them."

I laughed at his response.

"I've asked myself the same thing for years."

He chuckled. A breeze blew across us, and I shivered.

"Here." He took of his coat and went fo wrap it around me.

"Charlie, you'll freeze."

"And so will you if you dont stop being stubborn."

I glared at him, but allowed him to slip it onto me nevertheless.

"Now, I think some hot chocolate and shopping is long due."

I looked into his eyes, which sparkled in the Christmas tree light. If only he knew how much I was in love with him. Little did I know, he was thinking the same exact thing.

"Look, it's the party ditchers." Beverly snapped at me and Charlie as we walked in. I rolled my eyes.

"Sorry, we didnt want to stay around while you flirted with other guys." I aggressively whispered. She shot me a glare, right as Evan walked in.

"Hey guys! Where'd you go?" He asked calmly. How was he married to her?

"We went to the town square, to look at the Christmas tree." Charlie explained.

"And he took me shopping." I giggled, holding up my bag. Beverly rolled her eyes from behind Evan's back. Charlie and I looked at each other, knowing what needed to be done.

"Hey Evan, would you mind if I talked to you?" Charlie asked, rubbing my lower back before walking into another room with Evan. Beverly narrowed her eyes. I gave her a snooty smile, before running upstairs to my room. I was trying on my new clothes when I suddenly heard loud yelling. I threw open the door to investigate. Beverly was yelling her head off at Evan and Charlie, as they both just sat there. I ran down the stairs and up to Charlie, who grabbed my hand for comfort.

"I would never cheat on you Evan, you know that!" She screeched.

"That's not what Charlie said." He yelled back.

"You're going to believe him over me?"

I scoffed, holding on to Charlie tighter.

"YEAH, I AM, BECAUSE IVE SEEN YOU MYSELF. YOU FLIRT WITH EVERYONE, YOU DONT CARE." Evan roared.

"What is going on?" My mom came running in, followed by my dad.

"I was just leaving. I dont need a wife that's cheating on me." Evan spat. Beverly rolled her eyes.

"Fine, leave. You were no fun anyways." She stomped her foot. Evan ran out the front door.

"You stupid bi—" Beverly started towards me.

"Stop." Charlie moved in front of me. "If its anybody's fault, its mine."

Beverly scoffed.

"No it's always her fault. Her existence is her fault. I hate her. I hate you." She turned to me. I couldnt help the tears that rolled down.

"Leave." My mom ordered.

"What?" I asked.

"I said LEAVE. You're upsetting Beverly. " She shouted. I choked back a sob, but turned and ran upstairs. My own mother had turned against me, when I hadn't even done anything. Charlie was quick to follow, helping me grab my stuff. We obeyed, leaving the house.

"Where are we gonna go?" I asked once we were in his car.

"I'm calling a hotel right now baby." He answered, and I was too upset to mention anything about what he'd called me. I was full on crying, unable to stop. He placed his hand on my leg as he called a hotel.

"They said they have an empty room. You ok?" He asked. I shook my head.

"My own mom kicked me out." I sniffed.

"They're messed up, y/n. No family should treat each other the way they do."

I nodded in agreement. We drove in silence until we reached the hotel, and got up to our room. Charlie made me some tea while I changed into my pajamas, and curled up into a chair.

"Here." He said, handing me the warm cup. I accepted it and took a sip.

"Thank you for being here." I sniffled.

"Of course, always." He softly said, gesturing me to get up. I did as he told, and he sat in the chair motioning me to sit in his lap. I curled into him, and he softly played with my hair. I was almost asleep before his voice jerked me back to reality.

"Y/n, there's something I need to tell you."
