I woke up extra early that morning to get my hair cut. My mother said that if I packed the night before then she would cut my hair the day of. I took a quick shower before going into the kitchen, where my mother sat with a pair of scissors. "How short?" she asked. I motioned to the top of my shoulders. Her eyes widened. "Really? All of it?" she questioned. "Mhm." I hummed with a grin.

I looked in the mirror in the foyer and looked at my outfit. I wore a black dress with thin straps and green dragons on it with a leather jacket and black see-through pantyhose. I then looked at my hair. I looked so much more mature with short hair. It came right up to my shoulders, and I looked like a miniature version of my mother.

I stood with my parents on platform 9 and 3/4. "Have a great year, Cynthia." my mother said. I gave her a smile and she kissed the top of my head before pulling me into an embrace. She kissed my head again before handing me off to my father.

"We'll miss you, sweetheart." he said as he pulled me into a warm embrace. He tapped my shoulder three times with his finger. Three taps means 'I love you'. I tapped his back three times with my finger in response. He let go of me and kissed me on the head. "See you this Christmas." he said. I nodded and glanced between him and my mother before walking onto the train with my trunk that I had transfigured into a briefcase.

I sat down in our usual compartment. I was first, as always. I was looking out of the window when the door slid opened. I assumed it was one of my mates so I didn't look up. "What are you doing in here? This compartment is taken. Get lost." Daphne's voice called. I turned my head towards her and looked her up and down.

"Why such a bitch today, Daph?" I asked. Her face went from angry to excited in less than a second. "Cynthia!" she exclaimed. I opened my arms and gave her a big hug, to which she gladly returned. "Hey, Daphne, have you seen Cynthia?" Astoria asked. Everyone was now standing in the aisle. "She's right here!" she exclaimed and pointed to me.

Everyone froze in their tracks.

"You cut your hair!" Theo exclaimed with a gasp.

"You look completely different, C." Blaise reprimanded.

"I'd shag." Astoria teased.

"Oh my Merlin." Jack said with his jaw gaped in awe.

After everything had settled down, we all sat and talked about our summers. "I'm gonna use the restroom." I said as I stood up. I walked down the aisle and into one of the bathrooms to look at myself in the mirror.

My eyes were slightly darkened because of my daily, casual eye makeup look and my face was much more defined than last year. I really did look like a different person. I ran my fingers through my short hair before turning around and walking out of the restroom.
