Jeremy’s P.O.V.
“Sparks fly, it’s like electricity. I might die when I forget how breathe… ‘Cause when I’m kissing you my senses come alive. Almost like the puzzle piece I’ve been trying to find falls right into place…” I sang quietly to myself. Yesterday Mason had kissed me and became my boyfriend. It was like a dream. I kept slapping myself to see if I would wake up and to my delight I never did.
I sent Mason way with Anny to get ready for our double date. Anny was going with Oliver. Who, speaking of which, should have been here an hour ago to get ready with me. I wondered if he was getting cold feet. It’s his first date since Delilah and maybe he is worried about something bad happening. I was just about to call him when he burst into the room.
“Oliver, what the heck man? You were supposed to be here an hour ago!” I told him in frustration. Oliver sighed and ran his hand through his brown hair.
“I needed to pick up some stuff for Anny,” he said. I gazed at him curiously.
“What did you get her?” I questioned.
“Something,” Oliver said evasively. I stared at him some more as he shifted uncomfortably. His every move screamed secretive. That’s when I noticed the huge wrapped package by the door.
“That’s very vague, Oliver,” I said cautiously while eyeing the package.
“Yes, it is,” he replied with a fake sweet smile. “Don’t even think about it.”
“Think about what?” I asked, feigning innocence. Oliver glared at me.
“You know what, Jeremy,” he responded. Well might as well go for it. I sprinted all the way to the package before he caught me and threw me back.
“I will not have you ruining the surprise!” he told me sternly. “Now let’s go get ready, we have to be there at seven."
I dressed in my best jeans, they were the only ones without holes, and Mason’s favorite shirt of mine- a blue t-shirt with a beach scene printed on the front- and a dress jacket. Oliver went all out on his outfit. He was wearing a red bow tie; a white dress shirt and black dress slacks. He even slicked his hair back. I refused to dress up that much; I mean I may love Mason… wait love? No, I mean like a lot, but I would not dress up greatly to impress him. He should like me for me and this is how I dress.
We made it to the restaurant with no time to spare. Anny and Mason would be here any minute. I dreaded to see Anny, she always seemed mad at me for no reason at all. Plus, she was super annoying. I can’t see what Mason and Oliver see in her. Oliver was being extra jittery and holding the package tightly to his chest.
“Are you going to tell me what’s in that thing?” I asked him hopefully. He rolled his eyes at me.
“Absolutely not. It’s not for you, so why do you care so much?” He questioned, annoyed.
“I’m not good with not nothing things,” I whined in reply.
“You’re just nosy,” Oliver said while chuckling.
“Am not!” I yelled.
“Are too,” a difference voice said. I happy feeling spread throughout my entire body in reaction to his voice.
“Mason!” I shrieked. I gave him the biggest bear hug I possibly could, even lifting him off the ground in the process.
“I’m happy to see you too,” Mason whispered.
Inside the restaurant Oliver wouldn’t stop, or should I say, couldn’t stop drooling over Anny. I have to admit; she looked pretty stunning with her rainbow hair all curled and her body clad in a black sparkly dress, but seriously! A man should not drool over their date, not only is it embarrassing, but also degrading and unmanly.
“Jeremy stop drooling over Mason,” Anny grinned annoyingly. Okay, I was drooling over Mason just as much as Oliver was over Anny. I just didn’t want to say it.
“Pssh, I am not,” I lied. She laughed at me.
“You are in denial about many things today,” Anny said wisely. I had a feeling she didn’t just mean about drooling and being nosy. How could she know that I was trying to decided if I was in love with Mason? Maybe it was woman intuition. Or maybe it was the fact I kept starting sentences with I but then stopping.
I gazed at Mason in appreciation. He looked fantastic. He was wearing a sea-green shirt that matched his eyes perfectly and some tan dress pants.
“You look great, Mason,” I told him. He rolled his eyes at me and grinned.
“Thank you for the one thousandth time. You look great, too,” Mason replied.
The dinner went by really fast as everybody chatted and laughed. It really was the best day. The only thing that bothered me is that Oliver still hadn’t given Anny that package.
“Oliver! Give Anny your stupid present!” I screamed at him impatiently. He rolled his eyes and his face turned red in irritation.
“What present?” Anny asked. Her eyes were wide open in surprise and delight. “I honestly don’t need a present, they aren’t important.” I looked at her. The last girl I knew always wanted gifts, but she looked completely sincere. Hmm, good, she gets brownie points. Where the heck did the term brownie points even come from? I wonder…
“Okay, fine, fine. You can have it now,” he muttered. He handed it to her with shaking hands and she ripped the paper off it quickly.
“OH MY GOODNESS,” Anny shrieked in absolute happiness. She got up and immediately rushed to give Oliver a hug. “Thank you, thank you, thank you!”
I looked over and saw a colorful pop culture painting of Anny and Mason together making goofy faces.
“I figured that since he moved away from your city you could always have him with you now,” Oliver said while blushing.
“How did you get that picture?” Anny questioned. Mason grinned and went over to hug her.
“I gave it to him, Anny. I carry it in my wallet,” He said while hugging her tightly and messing up her hair.
“Mason stop!” Anny giggled. “Thank you so much you guys!”
“Am I the only one who didn’t know anything about this?” I pouted. This was not right. Leaving me in the dark like this is just not nice.
“Oh shush, it’s her happiness that counts. Not your whininess,” Mason said, laughing.
“Well excuse me for being me,” I told him while fighting a smile.
“I have the best idea!” Anny yelled, which made the hostess of the restaurant send her a glare. She held up a newspaper that we had found on the table. On the front page was the picture of a Ferris wheel.
“Let’s go to a carnival.”
