I fling open the door to come face to face with Cole who had a wide smile on his face.
"Can I help you?" I sigh walking into the house backing him
"Happy birthday," he says and I turn around coming face to face with a bouquet of roses and doughnuts.
"Get that thing out of my sight," I stare at the flowers wide eyed my heart racing and my palms sweaty
"This?" he frowns staring at the flowers
"Get it out," I state a little louder
"What's wrong with it?" he asks me
"Sandra!" I yell taking two steps back my palms clammy
"Throw those flowers away!" I yell and Sandra hurries over to Cole collecting the flowers and heading to the kitchen
"What's wrong?" Cole frowns staring at me bewildered
"Not in the house! Burn it!" I yell my heart beat racing and my palms cold
Taking a long breath I sit at the edge of the couch as Sandra exits the door my hands still shaking.
"Can you tell me what is going on?"
When I and Antonio were together, it was a dangerous journey, I was in more danger than ever. We were home that day and the doorbell rang. I went to answer it and it was a bouquet of flowers, I was surprised someone sent me flowers but I read the card in it. It said 'a surprise for you'.
I took it in and showed Antonio, when he read the card his eyes widened, that's when we heard the incessant beeping from the flowers. Antonio grabbed the flowers from me, swiftly went downstairs, and threw it out. To my surprise, it exploded. It was a death trap for me. I was shaken and since then I never accepted flowers from anybody not even Antonio. It was a traumatic experience and it was hard to take in but after the incident, I developed Anthophobia, a fear of flowers.
"Please don't ever give me flowers again," I warn him and he takes a seat
"Okay? But will you explain what happened?"
"Never give me flowers again,"
"I get it but can you explain why?"
"Don't ever give me flowers again!" I yell standing up and he stands too
"I get it! but you have to explain why!" He demands impatiently
"No,"
"Just tell me," he cajoles
Sighing I adjust myself on the couch explaining the story to him.
"Wow, that's some messed up stuff," he sighs
"Doughnut?" He asks me and I smile noticing it's Dunkin donuts
"Thanks," I give him a small smile
"I'm sorry about what happened, we caused it," He smiles sadly
"What do you mean we'?"
"We in the mafia, it was someone in the mafia who did that right?"
"Yeah,"
"The mafia is a shitload of trouble and I'm sorry you have to be involved in this shady shit,"
"I want to be a part of the shady shit," I give a small smile and he returns it
"Uh where's Carlos?" he asks
"Playing," I narrow my eyes at him
"Just curious," He raises his hand up in surrender
"Who told you about my birthday," I raise my chin up
"Martin," He smiles sheepishly
"I need to talk to him about sharing my private matters," I mutter
"How is Tanya?" I ask
"She's good," he replies and I nod
"She's not good," he sighs
"What happened to her?" I frown "Did she run away again?"
"No, actually my dad wants her to get rid of the baby,"
"Does she want to?"
"No," he sighs
"Then no one can force her, it's her baby, she's an adult," I shrug
"I hope he'll listen," he sighs and I smile
"He will, it might just take a bit of time, try convincing him,"
After eating three doughnuts and some friendly exchanges, Cole takes his leave.
Still not opening any of my birthday messages I order Chinese takeout from a nearby restaurant eating it with Carlos and Sandra before calling it a night.

Dressed in grey pants and a grey suit jacket, I head out for work.
"Morning ma'am,"
I nod my head in response to the greeting heading straight for my office. Calling on Dave he presents me with four capable people of going over to Russia to handle that branch. After serious pondering, I eventually settle on one of them.
"You're to leave this evening to Russia,"
"Thank you, ma'am, it means a-"
"Keep your thanks, just work," I roll my eyes at him pointing at the door
