"I loved you before I even knew what love meant."- Bridgett Devoue
__________
It was hard to talk to the boy at first.
When you first came up to that rooftop, there he was. His fading uneven blonde and brown hair blew in the wind, and his feet dangled over the edge. The black sweater hadn't seemed to keep him warm, but he didn't utter a word of his discomfort. All he did was stare off into the distance most of the time you'd catch him looking into the sky, his mouth slightly agape as he admired the stars or the semi-quiet city. The so-called quiet city had filled your ears with the sounds of cars that passed by and some that honked at other cars in their way. Bright city lights, even at night, the city didn't seem to sleep to you.
Despite all the silence and the words that could fill the emptiness of it all. He was still so hard to talk to. He was rough with his words and always so blunt, at times you thought he was gonna find a new rooftop to crash at. Yet, no matter how many times you left with a small frown on your face due to the unsuccessful meeting. You'd find him the next night in his same position, mouth parted and staring at the stars that twinkled before him. And on this night, it was the very same as all of the previous ones.
You clear your throat to get his attention. Before sitting down next to him the bag ruffling as you sat it between the both of you.
"You don't have to keep bringing me snacks." He muttered his yellow eyes slightly glancing over at you. You smiled before responding, "It gets you to like me more."
"It doesn't." He answers.
You place a hand over your heart and slightly lean backward, "Ouch, bitter as always Kenma."
A small chuckle escaped his lips, "Maybe it does." He mutters answering your earlier statement. Your smile grew at that. "Just admit it! I'm a good time!" You say as you slightly nudge his shoulder, he rolled his eyes a bit to show his discomfort but the ends of his lips curving into a smile had said otherwise.
"Whatever you say, Y/n." He looks up at the stars, the wind blowing into his face as he tucked it behind his ears, which you noticed was a habit for him. But while Kenma stared at the sky, somehow you always found yourself looking at Kenma instead of the starry night sky. You hadn't known what it was, he just was so angelic.
Yet, you didn't wanna feel like a creep or have him call you out...which you had to admit has happened a couple of times. So you slowly guided your eyes to the sky. The stars felt like they told a million stories..every single one.
"Kenma." You called, he hummed in response. "Why do you like stars so much?" You asked...silence overtook the conversation, Kenma didn't look away from the sky, his expression from amazed formed into a frown. Maybe you asked too soon? I mean even if you did, you hadn't thought the question would be-
"A friend of mine told me that humans are made up of stardust." He grew silent again, his eyes flickered down at the city street, cars passed by and some blurry figures of people walking down the street before he looked back up again. "I've always thought it was stupid at first, but..now that I think of it." He trailed off as he watched the sky, the sky's seeming to twinkle as he gazed at them. "It's kinda cool."
You looked up too. "Yeah, that is kinda cool." You say slightly amazed.
Silence fell over top of the both of you.
You were a person of many words, while Kenma from the nights you've known him. Wasn't.
You would be lying if you said you didn't find anything wrong with it though. It's not like you were gonna force him to talk to you, well, you did bug him sometimes to get a few sentences out. But other than that you wouldn't hardcore force him to speak to you, so you just let the quiet wash over the both of you.
"Uh, Y/n." The silence that had just came felt like it had quickly vanished as Kenma called out to you.
"Yeah?"
"Thank you for being around."
Your eyes widen, you must have been hearing things. You then felt your face heat up, there was no way. I mean, this was very unexpected from him. Ken's turned to look at you, only to be greeted by your confused face.
"What!? Is it so weird for me to say thank you to you?" He asked confused.
You then laughed, you hadn't known why your face was red, or why you felt like your heart had been beating rapidly.
"What are you laughing for!" He asks now his face slightly turning red from the embarrassment as he heard your laughter.
"Nothing! It's just that's so unexpected of you." You answer in self-defense. Kenma huffed before opening up the bag that you brought and rummaged around before pulling out a Kit Kat package.
"Why'd you get the tiny ones?" He asked. "That's all they had!" You say as you watched him unwrap it and bite into it.
"You probably didn't look good." He jokes. Making you gasp, "Oh says you! I looked! And there was absolutely nothing." You shout watching him laugh. Once his laughter simmered down he looked at the town that illuminated in lights.
"But I'm serious. Thanks for being around Y/n."
You smiled before looking up at the sky, "Thanks for not leaving Kenma."
