"I grew up being abused, Charlotte. I spent my childhood getting beat and doing drugs. I was an alcoholic and crack cocaine addict at the age of 14. I got mixed up with a drug Lord and ended up in juvie. One of my biggest fears is raising my daughter and her ending up like me. " I say and run my fingers through my hair.
"She's not going to end up like you babe. You are the best mother to her. Shes your first kid, you're gonna make mistakes, it's natural. " Charlotte says. I think about it for a second then sigh.
"I'm so glad that I married you. I have no clue what I'd be doing without you. "I look over at her and smile but then it drops. I'm not in our living room anymore. I'm standing outside her mother's house in the Bronx. I fall to my knees beside her unconscious, bleeding body. I hear tires squeal and I watch as the car speeds off.
" Charlotte! No! Charlotte! Please no! SOMEONE CALL AN AMBULANCE! "I scream. I try to put pressure on the gunshot wound to her stomach but she bleeds even more. I cry and scream her name. Over and over.
" CHARLOTTE! CHARL-"
"Mom! Mom wake up! " I spring up in the bed breathing heavily.
"Sabrina. What are you doing awake? " I ask trying to steady my breathing.
"You were crying again. Mom, grandpa and uncle Andrew said to call them if it happens again. " I sigh running my hands down my face. I smile at my 8 year old daughter.
"I will sweets. Go back to bed. It 3am. " I say checking the time.
"Can I sleep in here? "She asks. I nod. She crawls into the bad and I pull the covers over the both of us.
"Mom, were you dreaming about Charlotte? " Sabrina asks quietly. I pause and then answer.
"Yes. I miss her so much. " I look to my nightstand with a picture of Charlotte, Sabrina, and I.
"I miss her too. "She says. I pull her into me and wrap my arms around her as if I'm protecting her from the world.
"Go to sleep. I love you. "
"I love you too. "

I enter the kitchen to see my best friend drinking my coffee.
"You look like shit. " I sigh and rub my face.
"Thanks, good morning to you too. " I retort.
"Wanna tell me what hapoened? " I pour myself some coffee then go stand across from where she's sitting at the kitchen island.
"I had another dream about Charlotte. This is the third one this week. They're all the same. We're talking on the couch then we're outside. Sabrina woke me up last night because she heard me crying. "I say taking a drink from my coffee.
" I thought you stopped having those. Why are you getting then again? "Stephanie asks. Stephanie has been my best friend since I started college. We were roommates. Now we work together. We have since we graduated.
" I don't know. It's been 4 years. It not like it's around the time that it happened. That was 2 months ago and I wasn't having them then. "I say. The elevator dings and my brother Andrew walks in.
" Yikes. Did the bear win? "Andrew asks. I gasp and roll my eyes. Stephanie snickers.
" That's rude. I had a rough night. "I say hugging him.
" Did you have another nightmare? "I nod.
" Honestly I think it's time for a therapist. "I mutter.
" I agree. If it will help then I am all for it. "Stephanie says.
" I'm ready! "Sabrina yells coming down the stairs.
" Wanna go to breakfast with Kai and Tyler? "Andrew asks as she comes towards us. She nods with a huge smile.
" Come give me a hug and kiss sweets. "She comes up to me and wraps her arms around me. I kissed her forehead and she kisses my cheek.
" Bye I love you! "She shouts as she walks to the elevator with Andrew. I tell her I love ber and we say bye before the elevator closes.
" Go get ready girl. I heard were getting a new case. "Stephanie says. I groan.
" Why can't we still be detectives for the NYPD? "I mutter. Going to the stairs.
"Because we're too cool for them! " Stephanie shouts after me. I shake my head. Maybe.
•••••••••••••••••
"Fraud and money laundering? " I ask looking through the file on my desk.
"This guy is one idiot. " Stephanie says. I snort.
"No kidding. It's like he didn't care if he got caught. The file doesn't have a suspect. Who are we investigating? " I ask flipping through the rest of the file.
"It just has a company's address. Agent Jones wants us to follow the trail she's layed out. " Stephanie says.
"What's new? " I ask and grab my purse. I put the file in it and follow Stephanie out of my office. We take the elevator to the lobby then go out to her SUV. I get in the passenger seat of the Tahoe and she starts the car. She starts for the company.
"What do you think we will find? " She asks. I shrug.
"It's not what? It's who? " I say. My phone starts ringing. It's Andrew. I answer.
"Hey. Sabrina said she forgot her necklace at home. She wants to go get it. Is it ok if we go pick it up? " He asks. Stephanie stops and parks the car in front of the building .
"Yea. Why did she take it off anyways? " I ask. I set my purse underneath the seat and we go into the building.
"She said she was cleaning it before she got ready." I sigh and shake my head. We flash our badges to the receptionist and go to the elevator. I tap the button for the very top floor.
"Ok well she doesn't need to be taking it off anymore with out telling me but yea go ahead and go get it. " I say.
"Ok I'll tell her. We'll see you later. " He says and hangs up.
"Did she forget something? "Stephanie adked. I nod.
"She forgot her necklace. "I say as the doors ping open. We go to the secretary and show our badges.
" Hi. I'm Agent Morales and this is Agent Davis, we have a couple of questions for your boss. Any chance we can see him? " Stephanie asks.
"Yes his office is at the end of the hall. He just got back from a meeting so he shouldn't be busy. " The woman says. We thank her and go to the office at the end of the hallway. Stephanie knocks and we hear a 'come in' before we open the door.
"Hi Mr. Scott, I'm Agent Morales and this is my partner Agent Davis. We just want to ask you a couple of questions. " I step beside Stephanie and gasp when I see whose office we just stepped into.
My ex and baby daddy.
Caden Scott.
