The boys rushed outside after learning that. They screamed for her. They looked for her everywhere at the parking lot. But, she's nowhere to find.
"It's like we're being fooled." Alex sighed.
"Correction," Zack said. "We look like fools."
"We are fools." Jack added.
Rian, with a heavy heart, spoke up. "Let's go home. I can't contact Sunday's number anymore. She blocked me."
"She blocked us all. Should we check in her apartment?" Alex asked.
"No. I already contacted her apartment's guard. He said she did not come home." Zack informed. They all let out a breath of sorrow.
A week later, there was still no sign of Sunday. The guard also informed the boys that someone took all of Sunday's stuff from her room and paid the remaining bill.
Jack asked him of this someone. Sadly, the person wants to stay hidden and said to not try to find Sunday.
The four were heartbroken. They do not know what to do. They do not even have any idea what happened to her.
And damn, they all missed her. It was never the same since she disappeared. They wanted answers
"Any idea about Sunday?" Joyce, Jack's mum, asked.
Jack shook his head no. "No. Nothing. Her classmates don't know. Her neighbours don't know. And we don't even have her parents' number."
Joyce gave him a confused look. "I wonder why?"
"I wonder why, too."
Joyce turned off the radio and sat down on the chair in front of his son. "You know, we also lost contact with her parents when they moved. So, I can't help you with that. I'm sorry."
"It's okay, mum. It's not your fault." The bags under his eyes became darker as they searched for their lost best friend for days. Night and day.
"Has she been experiencing problems?" Joyce asked.
Jack nodded as he drank his coffee. "Yeah. Stomach ache, vomiting."
"That's weird. Acid reflux?"
"Yeah. She said so. We told her to visit the doctor, she did, and I think she was not drinking her meds." He stood up from his seat and went to the fridge. He took out a fresh apple and munched it. "It really pains Alex, though. Alex has the purest heart among the five of us. He treated Sunday like his daughter. Every now and then, he would cry. He sometimes blames himself."
Joyce looked down and frowned. This is a complicated situation they are in. The school even is not concerned about her disappearance. They never contacted the police and even if they did, the cops didn't even moved.
After two weeks of searching, the boys gave up. They are never going to see Sunday again. They accepted that. They are never going to see her eat like a lion, they are never going to see her get mad, they are never going to hear her complains again.
Three months passed and it was already the end of the school year. Rian's parents decided to have a vacation in California. They have a house there down at Orange County.
On their last night as juniors, the boys drank alcohol and played pool at Zack's. They talked a lot of stuff, including missing Sunday.
"There will always be a space on my heart for Sunday. It still aches to think that she left without even saying goodbye. Without any explanation." Alex sniffed.
Rian patted Alex's back. "You know, I tried searching for her Facebook and Twitter account. They are all gone."
"Let's stop this. It hurts." Jack said.
Zack nodded. "Yes. Jack's right. Let's cheer a toast for her instead. For Sunday!" Zack rose his hand with a bottle of beer.
"For Sunday!"
A very impulsive decision was made that night. The three boys will be joining Rian and his family for their vacation in California.
They said they too needed distraction from all the stress they had encountered and that they needed to relax.
"I already included you in our schedule. Our flight is at six in the morning. Pack up your things now. We only have three hours left." Rian explained.
Jack burped."I'm too drunk to pack."
Zack laughed. "Then good luck getting on that plane. They have scanners, remember?"
"I was just joking. You drank, too."
"I did, but not too much."
