I leave the cafeteria, hearing the large door shut behind me. When I'm half way down the hall, I hear it open again. I look behind me, and see Alex coming down the hall. I slow my step allowing him to catch up. "Hey" I say.

"Hey" he says, walking beside me. "Do you like it here?" He asks. I nod. I hear the door open again, and see two guys walk out. Alex steps away from me as if I wasn't there to begin with and walks to them. They talk, sharing a laugh before walking right past me.

"Yeah. She kept trying to talk to me. Fucking weirdo" I hear Alex say as he walks by. Hearing him say that stuns me. I stand in my place and watch as they go. I eventually stumble towards a solitary bench down the hall a ways.

I sit down and process the what he said in my mind. He could have been talking about someone else. But why would he step around me like I wasn't even there then? I hear the doors again and see Annabeth and Rachel coming now.

"Hey Kate, I thought you knew how to get back?" Rachel says.

"Oh, yeah sorry I got a little confused, and thought I'd just wait here for you guys."

"Okay!" Rachel says. I get up and follow them back to the room. When we get there I begin unpacking. I make my bed, and set up my stuff on the empty oak desk that's for me. What is it with this school and oak?

When I'm finished I say goodbye to my room mates and go to see Eric. I find my way to his office with directions from a short brown haired girl in the hallway.

When I arrive at his office, I knock on the heavy door. "Come in" I hear Eric call from inside. I pull the door open. Eric is seated behind a large cherry wood desk. Behind him are two large book shelves of the same type. In front of his desk are two black leather chairs, which upon closer inspection have little ridges, each with a gold button.

"Hello Kate" he smiles. I smile, and sit on one of the chairs.

"Hi. I'm just wondering like.. what classes I should look at taking." I say.

"I think it would be wise to put you in a class that teaches you how to control your affinity. Now, the class we have called Skills 101 will be mostly kids in their third year." Eric tells me. I nod and assure him it's okay. "You have two other choices, and two mandatory classes, those being history and literature. Now history isn't what you're thinking. It's what they don't teach you in regular school. Did you know half of the population of Rome at one time were vampires? Regardless, you'll learn things like that in class. Pick your two electives." Eric hands me a list of classes, and it fills half the page. While skimming I notice combat training, and basic magic.

"I'll do these two." I say, showing Eric. He nods, and makes a schedule for me. I smile and stand up. "Thank you." I say before exiting the large room. Remembering the way I came, I slowly make my way back to my room. I pass by a group of students.

A tall boy with blond hair and striking eyes smiles as I pass. I smile politely, but keep moving. When I'm a little ways past them, I hear footsteps behind me. I look over my shoulder and see the boy again. He kicks into a light jog to catch up with me.

"Hey, I'm Dylan" he says, walking beside me. "Are you new here? I don't think I've seen you before." He smiles.

"Yeah, I just got here today. My name is Kate." I smile. He extends his hand, and I notice a leaf, with vines growing around it. I shake his hand, and ask "is that your mark?" Dylan glances down.

"Oh yeah. Vreme" he smiles. Noticing my confused look, he laughs. "It means weather. I'm assuming you don't know Romanian?"

"Oh. No, I don't. I am kind of knew to everything" I laugh. He gives a light chuckle.

"Well if you ever need help or want to learn Romanian, I was taught it growing up." He smiles.

"Thanks for the offer. I'll keep that in mind." I tell him. "It's been a long day, I should probably head to my room" I say.

"I can walk you if you'd like." He offers, smiling again.

"That'd be great. Sure." I say. We start down the hallway to my room.

Dylan tells me about certain things as we walk down the hallway, and how depending on your preference, you can take day or night classes. Some vampires are more sensitive or tired during the day. He tells me that while some prefer classes at night, all of our kind feel the call of the night. We crave the shadows and the darkness.

Before long, we're at my door. "Până data viitoare, frumos." Dylan says.

"Dylan I don't know Romanian" I tell him again.

"Then I guess you'll have to come study with me, if you want to understand that phrase" he smiles. "I hope you rest Well Kate" he says, before walking away.

No matter how comfortable I got, I couldn't fall asleep. This bed was great, I had my blankets, and I had talked to my brother on the phone, promising things were alright. But this wasn't home. And I'm not sure any amount of my belongings could make it feel like home either.

  No matter
