The eyes darted into a dark hallway. Melody followed, still keeping a long distance away from them. Melody was trying her best to keep up with the mysterious eyes, but they were quite nimble. Melody was persistent; she wanted to know why they'd been following her and that kept her going. She needed to know.
Soon Melody found herself outside, heading in the direction of the forest that she had seen outside her dorm window that morning. Still keeping the same speed, the eyes ran closer to the woods and unexpectedly stopped just before going in. Looking around to make sure no one would see it, it disappeared into the thick darkness of trees.
Melody followed closer but quickly her trail turned to panic. The eyes turned towards her general direction and Melody quickly darted behind some nearby trees. When she did her foot snapped a twig. The eyes quickly whipped around in the direction of the noise but didn't notice Melody's presence as she quickly ducked. The eyes moved further into the deep forest.
After that close call Melody decided to wait a few seconds before following. She leaped out from behind the trees and jolted to the edge of the forest. Just as she was about to dash in after the eyes, she suddenly felt something restraining her from going.
"Melody what are you doing out here?" Alice asked, holding on Melody's arm tightly. "We're not allowed to go into the Fae Hollows during school hours."
Melody wanted to tell Alice the truth, but anything that involved the glowing green eyes was dangerous, so Melody kept it to herself.
"There was a weird noise coming from this direction, but maybe it was nothing," Melody lied.
She turned back around, preparing to walk back to the main building. "It's probably nothing," she reassured Alice unconvincingly. When she turned to look at Alice she saw she was looking into the deep woods.
"Are you sure?" Alice asked with a puzzled look. "You look like you've seen a ghost."
Melody really didn't want Alice getting involved in something that might be dangerous. After all that happened the other day she didn't want history to repeat itself, she already had enough grief to process.
"I'll be fine," Melody assured her, "like I said it was probably nothing. Let's just go back to the cafeteria."
Alice looked back at the Fae Hollows to be sure that nothing was out of the ordinary. A few seconds passed and then she spoke.
"Yes, we should," Alice said in a motherly tone.
Alice then linked arms with Melody to make sure she wouldn't run off again into a place she didn't fully understand yet. The two of them walked back to the main building. When they had reached the cafeteria Sebastian and the others started heading towards them.
"Hey, we're going to meet up with Rowan before next period," Sebastian said as he came into earshot. "Want to join?"
"Wait, Rowan's here!?" Alice said shocked.
"Would I lie to you?" Sebastian asked.
Alice raised one of her eyebrows at the question, knowing all too well that Sebastian lied about a lot of things.
Noticing her reaction he said, "Don't answer that."
The group laughed amongst each other; they all knew that Sebastian was a jokester, even Melody joined in. It felt good to laugh after all that she'd gone through, refreshing in a way.
"Anyways," Alice said, interrupting the laugh-fest, "Rowan is really here? I thought he was going to be going to Pittersons Shifters Academy?"
"He sent out a message when you two went off to God knows where, and said that his parents changed their minds," Lixia said with a smile. "He said that he would meet us at his father's new office!"
