The infirmary room was cold and smelled sterile. Melody, Alice, and Sebastian were anxiously waiting at Rowan's bedside to hear about his condition and how long he would be in here. Alice paced back and forth anxiously with one hand on her forehead. Out of the three of them, she seemed to be the most worried, Rowan was her cousin after all.
Sensing her worries, Sebastian assured her in a soothing tone, "He's going to be okay. Nurse Lewis is the best."
Alice ignored Sebastian's soothing words and stopped pacing as Nurse Lewis walked into the room. He had a clipboard in his hands. When he came to the bedside he glanced down at the chart and then at the oximeter.
"Is he going to be alright?", Melody asked, sitting in a chair next to Rowan, who was laying on the hospital-like bed.
"He's going to be fine. I'm glad you managed to get away from that Snix," The nurse said, still checking his vitals. "If he were to get another hit from its paralyzing spell, he might have ended up being in a coma for a month or two."
This news made Melody's insides burn with blame. After all, if she wasn't there when it happened, Rowan wouldn't be in the infirmary, paralyzed. Still, if it wasn't for Alice's spell, they'd be in the same boat as Rowan. Alice still hasn't told anyone what spell she used or even where she learned it, which made Melody even more curious.
"Rowan's father will be notified about what occurred," The nurse said, "He'll need a few days to recover from the spell; I did a few soothing spells, but there's only so much healing magic you can do. The rest of the healing is up to him and his shifting magic."
Alice's blue eyes teared up at the news. She walked over to Rowan and cuffed his hand with hers, it was clear Rowan was like a brother to her. A tear fell down her cheek, but her hand quickly wiped it away before anyone could see. Melody walked over to Alice and placed her hand on hers, that were still holding Rowan's.
"Like Sebastian said, Rowan is in good hands," Melody said, "We should let him rest."
Alice didn't want to leave Rowan there by himself, but she knew that it would only make her more anxious to hang about. She decided to let him rest. Just before they were about to leave there was a knock on the door. Sebastian walked over to the door and opened it, when the door opened there were two people stood there looking into the room. It was Lixia and the Headmistress.
"How is Rowan doing?" Lixia said, looking over Sebastian's head.
After Alice had blasted the Snix away, Lixia went to get help. Conveniently the first person she found was the Headmistress.
"Rowan is recovering from the spell, he should wake in the next few days. The paralyzing spell was strong and caused his body to lock up, but he seems to be healing himself better than I expected," Nurse Lewis answered in a cheerful tone. "You should let him rest now; you all should too."
After Nurse Lewis had advised the group to get some rest, Headmistress Websten added, "We have put into consideration that you four have been through a lot this afternoon, so you may be excused from your remaining classes for the day. However, tomorrow you will be expected to carry on your normal schedules, besides Rowan of course."
Melody, Alice, Sebastian, and Lixia looked at each other in surprise. They couldn't believe that they would be excused from their remaining classes. Lixia walked over to Rowan's bedside and sat down in a chair next to it.
"Before you go back to your rooms though, I would like to speak with you three in my office," Headmistress Websten said, pointing at Melody, Sebastian, and Alice, ending their initial relief at being let off to rest.
