Creeping around the outside of the main building, a cool crisp fall breeze blew as Melody looked to Alice who was crouched down beside the side of the cool brick building. They had agreed to go into the Fae Hollows to seek out further information about what happened yesterday. Melody zipped up her jacket to shield her from the cold air. Alice was wearing all black, her arms were covered by a black hoodie, she had black jeans on and her shoes were even black just for the occasion. It was shocking to Melody because all she had seen Alice wear was white, but she had to agree Alice did look pretty fierce in black.
"Alice, are you sure we should be going without telling the others?" Melody asked as her worry of their safety came back to her mind. "Did it ever occur to you that maybe this person is the one who let the Snix into the school."
Looking to the trees about six feet away from them Melody remembered the last time she was at the edge of the hollows. The eyes were the only thing she recalled entering them and she believed they were responsible for the attack. 'If we go into the hollows, we will be putting ourselves in danger', she thought to herself.
Alice sneered at Melody's comment as they got closer to the edge of the hollow; the thought had come through her mind once or twice, but she did want to bail on the plan. 'Whoever put the Snix into the school needed to be found and punished for what they did to Rowan' Alice thought. 'And that information was within the deep, dark woods.' The letter was addressed to only her and Melody, that was the only reason she let her tag along; Alice didn't want to risk having some else come in case it was a trap. Plus, Rowan was released from the infirmary early in the day, which caused Alice to have more anxiety about the whole idea of telling anyone else about the meet. It would risk Rowan finding out if they did tell anyone and she knew Rowan all too well to know that he would want to tag along as protection. And that was the thing, she didn't need him to fight her battles. That's exactly why she had studied those advanced spells over the summer, to prove to him she wasn't a little girl anymore and that she could take care of herself. Also, he had just come out of recovery; He needed to relax. Still, she knew he would be mad at her when he found out they went by themselves.
"Shh. You might wake up the staff." Alice shushed Melody with a finger to her lips. "Okay. I have this cloaking spell I've been wanting to try out, but haven't had the chance to use it."
Melody wasn't loving the idea of using magic and a spell they haven't mastered yet. Something in her gut told her that maybe Alice could do it, after all, she did use an advance spell to stop the Snix in the school.
"Wait, what?" Melody said loudly, "you want to use a spell you haven't yet used? I don't think that's a good idea, Alice. What if..."
Alice rolled her eyes at Melody and shot back, "What choice do we have? As soon as we step foot in the forest a detection spell at the edge is going to go off. We need to cloak ourselves. If we don't then we'll never get the information we need to help find out who let the Snix in."
Giving in, Melody agreed with a wistful smile. "Alright. Just don't kill us, okay."
Alice smiled tightly, looked around to make sure no one was around, and reached a hand into her pant's pocket. She took out a small leather brown book with a golden latch. She ripped open the book and flipped to the exact page she needed.
"There," Alice whispered to Melody as she planted a finger on the page. "All we need to do is read it word for word."
Melody looked at Alice with an eyebrow raised. "What do you mean by we?"
"Well..." Alice replied with a cocky smile, "the spell calls for two sources of magic. One coming from me and the other from you, if we want the spell to cloak both of us. It is a second-year spell after all and it is a strong one."
