The bells above Lorena's bed rang intently back and forth, forcing her to get up and start this long day ahead. She pulled the silk yellow eye mask off her face and above her bonnet.
"Ughhh, please stop! Please!" Lorena stressed, panting from her sudden awake.
One of the maids pressed their lips onto the intercom from the dining room and held their breath. "Lorena, darling. It's time for you to wake up. Your friend's band is coming to perform any minute now," the maid encouraged, pushing out the most motivated tone she could.
Lorena finally opened her eyes and looked around her bedroom in a panic. "Oh shit- okay! I'll be there! If Benji comes into work early today just let him inside my room, please!" The princess ordered, placing her feet onto the ground and darting over to her dresser.
Shoot, shoot, shoot. The sustainability banquet is today and I overslept. Benji's going to kill me!
She thought to herself, pulling clothes out of all the sides in her dresser. Lorena pulled her bonnet off her head and threw it behind her, rummaging a hand through her tight curls. The mirror in front of her reflected the sun from the window beaming down onto her tan skin.
Her hands stopped on the most perfect outfit, a fitting trouser suit with a white lace top underneath. Lorena's mom hated the way her daughter dressed, but everyone knew Lorena honestly couldn't care less, and she was going to wear what she wanted to wear. This was the only form of self-expression Lorena was allowed to have.
The twenty-one year old princess looked at her average body in the mirror. She placed two hands on her wide hips and crouched her rib cage in, pretending to be on the cover of some 90s teen magazine. Her eyes scanned all over her room in search of some accessories and finally settled onto a black headband, to push her curly strands out of her face, and a pair of small gold hoops.
Benjamin- "Benji," the most energetic man you could possibly meet in your life, knocked on her door in the same musical rhythm as he always did. He stood in his all black server uniform and with his signature dangling cross earring in one ear. His fingernails were painted in a dark black color- to match his appearance of course- but only every other nail was painted.
"Come in," She called from the mirror, putting on the accessories to complete the look. Benji opened the door in a wild manner, attempting to scare his friend.
"Aha! Dude- I knew you slept in!" He accused, throwing his hands in the air but still placing half a smile on his face.
Lorena rolled her eyes as she walked over to her dresser again to apply a tiny bit of mascara. "So I watched a few more episodes of gossip girl last night and overslept? We knew this would happen, Ben."
She attempted to put white eyeliner on her waterline and stared her eyes up at Benji to show him. He winced and shook his head at her repeating, "No no no."
Benji took the eyeliner from her hands and placed it on her himself. He was an absolute pro at literally anything you thought he couldn't do. Just overcoming the conventional.
The girl took a deep breath before looking back into the mirror, witnessing his perfect attempt at a white waterline. He grabbed her hand and began pulling her out the door. "Come on, your highness. We're going to be late on the account of you. All of your sustainability sponsors are probably going to freak and dismantle the ban on plastic bags in this country," he joked, chuckling and tugging her.
"Hold up!" She begged, removing her hand from his. "I don't even have shoes on yet, silly!"
"Do you know who makes your thousand dollar shoes? Little kids in China for a little under a dollar! Who cares, you don't need shoes!" Her friend teased again, trying to grab her hand.
