At 11:00 AM sharp, the Hogwarts Express rolled out of King's Cross Station.
Despite his concern of missing it as his parents began to drag him around to other pureblood families, Regulus was safely seated in one of the last compartments on the train. An hour into the ride he was perfectly settled deep in his seat and just as he was about to say a prayer of 'thanks for an empty compartment', the door slid open and in popped the head of Sirius Black.
The grey eyed boy smiled at his younger brother and sent him a big wink. Like he had promised earlier, he had changed into the outfit he had originally wanted to wear. As his father earlier, Sirius was indeed wearing muggle clothes. Regulus cocked his head to the side and said to his brother," where did you get those?"
Sirius looked down at his body. He was wearing a pair of faded blue jeans and a large black sweater with a bizarre drawing of a cow in a field on it and at the bottom was written 'Pink Floyd: Atom Heart Mother'. Sirius shrugged and then popped his head out of the stall and into the small corridor," Hey!" he called out to the boys at the end of the train car. "We can sit in this one!" he waved them over furiously.
They all came crashing to his side and Regulus saw through the sheer of the doors that there was three boys. As Sirius stood straight up and opened the sliding doors all the way the boys were revealed.
"There's someone in here Sirius," the shortest boy said. He stood slightly behind the others and had ridiculously patchy thin blonde hair. His skin was a pasty white and his nose was rather small for the bigger side of his teeth. Initially Regulus thought he was off-putting, but then the boy smiled softly and tugged on the sleeve of the boy in front of him and Regulus looked at him in a way one would look at a small child.
"James, I can go look for another compartment if you want," the short blonde boy said. The sleeve owner, James, turned to look at the boy and shook his head.
Regulus was young, but after dozens of gala's and other high class functions he had been forced to attend since birth, he knew very well of the typical social hierarchy of people. Upon laying his eyes on James he knew the boy was the leader. Aside from Sirius who already moved inside the booth, James was standing in front of the other two as if he was their general and he stood with a confidence which seemed to surprisingly outshine the usual high ego and dramatic showmanship that came with his brother. James' chest broadened as he took in a deep breath and as his should squared, Regulus' skin started to burn as he looked at James, finding him extremely attractive.
The boy had a perfectly warm tan skin that looked as if it was soft to the touch. His hair was a dark brown- probably black without good lighting- and he had soft and sparkly hazel eyes. He was dressed similarly to Sirius yet held himself with a certain poise. Comparing his looks to himself and his brother versus the other two boys behind them, Regulus assumed that James was wealthy, and despite the muggle clothes, he felt there was no way the boy could be that confident during the current climate of the Wizarding World without being a pureblood.
"Hi," James spoke to Regulus. His tone was incredibly cheerful and yet as the boy leaned against the wood door and twisted the string of the doors window shade around his finger, Regulus sensed an underlying presence of mischief and chaos. "Do you mind if we sit here? There's just four of us, we promise not to take up too much room?"
The boy asked nicely and merely pleaded and Regulus figured that there was no other empty compartments. As Regulus was about to respond with 'yes', Sirius jumped in. His laugher bounced around the small booth.
"Of course we can sit here James, this is my brother Reggie," and then Sirius flopped onto the cushioned bench across form Regulus who was tucked in the corner by the window. James nodded and the three boys shuffled fully into the compartment. The sun-kissed boy slid in beside Regulus and offered his hand as the other two boys sat on Sirius' side.
