If Regulus could think of a word stronger then despise he would use it. That was the only thing that came to his head at six thirty in the morning on the first day of classes. He despised that he had been awoken that early because Regulus Black, was not and would never be a morning person.

The Black family all had learned this the hard way at some point in Regulus' childhood, for even as a boy he could never handle the early sunrise well. It took Sirius and their cousins weeks to finally perfect the technique in both waking Regulus up, and removing themselves from the singular path of his reign of terror.

It was indeed terror when the small boy first awakes.

It was Narcissa who always remarked," you're not yourself when you're tired," and it was true. Regulus had the habit of being the equivalent of an angry never-ending hurricane of hexes when he first wakes or is in a desperate need of sleep. Sirius Black has been the only person to master the 'avoid Reggie's morning war path' path.

If only he was there to save the three other first year boys Regulus was dorming with. The first boy to meet the wrath of 'The Rising Regulus' (a incredibly terrible and dramatic nickname created by Andromeda and Sirius) had stubbed his toe on his own trunk and couldn't stop himself fast enough from yelling out in pain. Regulus was quick to snap a silencing hex his way and didn't remove it till he walked out of the dorm. The other two weren't any luckier, one receiving an itching jinx for wiping his hands on Regulus' face towel and the other on the bad end of a knock back jinx when he simply tried to squeeze past Regulus. In Regulus' defense he had laid out all the rules he had for sharing the room for them all the night before.

"Learn a silencing charm now, I don't like noise when I'm trying to sleep. On the topic of sleep, never, and I will repeat- never be the reason I wake in the morning it won't be good for you. Most importantly don't even think about touching my stuff or being a nosy prick- I'll hex you into next term."

Other things on his list of rules of rooming with Regulus Black included, but was not limited to: no food near his bed, no strange or incredibly strong smells, ask if you want to borrow something, and the 'the decency of common sense will get you far'. He of course ended in the easiest way he could think, 'if you're not a shit head then we can be good roommates and trust me- you'll want to be on my good side'.

That morning they were quick to scramble out the door as Regulus finished shrugging on his black Hogwarts robe and tossed his brand new green and silver tie around his neck not bothering to tie it properly. He left his room and the boys dormitory stumbling still groggily into the Slytherin common room.

There was no natural light in the common room and it was only lit by green lantern-like lights and the a dual fireplace which Regulus didn't mind. What did bother him was the short red headed girl bounding out of the girls dormitory as if this was going to be the best day of her life. She passed Regulus on her way out of the common room but stopped and turned to look at him.

"Your tie is undone," she said matter-of-factly and then stepped closer to him," let me fix it."

She reached for his neck and he jerked away.

"Don't bloody touch me," he snapped. Regulus let out a grunt and rubbed his eyes as he pushed past her.

"Well someone's not a morning person," the girl concluded. She had piercing unmissable green eyes that shone effervescently against her perfectly pale and rosy face. "Are you headed to breakfast?"

"Everyone's headed to breakfast," he grumbled as the pretty girl began to follow him up and out of the Slytherin common areas. When they reached the main halls of the school she forced herself to fall instep with him and shoved her arm through his. "Didn't I say don't touch me?" he stared at her bewildered.
