"Well I'm actually looking for Sirius-"

James started speaking but was cut off by Lily who let out a sharp snort followed by a small chuckle as she said," Sirius Black? In the library? Yeah, alright."

Regulus shrugged in agreement thinking that she did have a valid point- Sirius was not studious.

"You're right," James just nodded to the dark ginger haired girl. "He's supposed to be researching something for a prank, but I lost track of him. I saw you and figured I'd come and say hello."

Regulus looked up at James with a soft smile. James was looking at Lily still.

But Regulus wasn't expecting anything different. All week Lily had been letting him in on the chaos that is James Potter and his friends. During her breakfast rants, she would be steaming with anger talking about dumb pranks James and Sirius do or how James is always trying to get her attention.

Lily Evans was in no way a dense girl.

She just refused to believe that James Potter fancied her. Not because she didn't think she was pretty or anything; Lily was very aware that she was better than a lot of people.

Regulus had gotten a glimpse of her narcissism and vanity every time she argues with Severus Snape which results in him storming off and her insuring that he would be back within the hour to apologize and talk to her again. In her defense, it's not her fault she's always right and he's always crawling back to her.

Regulus had officially concluded it two days prior when Lily had told him how it was only the first week of class but James had made it his mission to walk her to every single one of their classes together- which was surprisingly a lot- even if Sirius, Remus, or Peter also had the class.

Regulus didn't like the feeling that shot up his spine as James turned to Regulus and gave him a perfect smile. His eyes were soft and lazy looking and his dark glossy skin had a few blemishes around his chin but his cheeks looked smooth and they stretched when James smiled. It was almost as if James could sense that Regulus wanted his attention; as if James could read Regulus' mind and knew he had to acknowledge him before he completely lost interest.

"Hello Regulus Black, what are you studying?"

Only Merlin and Regulus know how fast Regulus' heart beat when James placed his hands on the table and leaned all the way over in order to tower over the table and Regulus and see what he was studying.

"I quite like History of Magic," he said as he leaned on only one hand and used the other to reach for Regulus' book and flip a few of the pages. Regulus assumed that there was no way he could be reading the text upside down and that the boy was just annoying fussing with his work, but Regulus didn't mind.

He looked up at James, who was still towering over the table, and watched as the boy furrowed his eyebrows and pursed his lips as he tried to read Regulus' handwriting and the essay. After a few seconds of his intensely frustrated face, Regulus sucked in a short breath and asked," what's wrong? Suddenly lose the ability to read, Potter?"

"That wouldn't surprise me," Lily laughed not looking up from her books. Regulus turned to her quickly almost forgetting she was there and looked her over as she sat contently working on her potions homework as though she wasn't effected by the dark boys torso stretched out just beside her head. Though he hadn't seen her early peek at the space of his skin that had been revealed by the raise of his arm when he messed with Regulus' work.

Regulus turned back to James who was looking down at him and said," well, I sorta can't read your handwriting Regulus," he took a pause to look down at the essay again then back up at the small pale boy with the uneasy look on his face. James continued noticing that he now also had the attention of Lily and Emmeline and said," it's just... well...it's-"

"-out with it, James!" Lily urged poking his rubs. The boy cringed a little at the sensation and his chocolate curls shook in Regulus' face for a mere second. James' shampoo smelled like fresh vanilla and one second Regulus was breathing it in and then another second and he was looking into James' bright hazel eyes.

"It's ridiculously fancy Regulus. It looks like an old person note- I would get a note from McGonagall telling me I have detention in this handwriting, Regulus."

Emmeline snorted and broke into a fit of loud laughter as she leaned back in her seat. Regulus' face went a deep cherry color as her loud joyous laughter boomed through the whole library. Lily giggled as she leaned over the table pressing her arm around James' as she reached for Regulus' homework.

She snatched it up and examined his handwriting. She let out a small giggle and an 'oh my' as she glanced over the parchment. "It's a woman's handwriting I'm sure," Lily said and this made Emmeline laugh even harder as she reached for her own piece of Regulus' work.

Lily handed him back his paper and he quickly ripped it form her hands and examined his own letters. "It's quite perfect cursive Regulus," she commented hoping that maybe that would make him feel any little better.

James' head went from the side as he looked at Lily to looking down at Regulus and he let out a soft chuckle as he finally pulled himself away from the boy, all the way back to sitting in his own chair.

Just as James' behind hit the bottom of the chair, Sirius Black turned around the corner of the bookshelves and shouted," James Potter sucks at quidditch!"

"Hey!" James called out in defense of himself," no I do not!"

Sirius turned to the direction of James' voice and clapped his hands as he yelled out," Potter!" The grey eyed curly haired older Black boy sauntered toward their table and stood behind Regulus' chair and ruffled the younger boys hair.

"Hello Reggie brother," Sirius smiled down at his younger brother fondly and then looked back up at James and accusingly said," you ditched me to come hang out with my baby brother and his friends?"

Sirius took a quick pause to turn to Lily. He offered her a smirk and quick," hello Evans."

But she only responded with a roll of her eyes and dropped her attention back to her work. So Sirius turned back to James and said pointedly," and a ginger? Remus would be so disappointed in you James."

James completely ignored all that Sirius had said and looked at him with a curious lopsided smile and said," hey why don't you write like that, Black?" He tossed his chin in the direction of Regulus' homework and Sirius grabbed the item in question. Regulus was very tired of people touching his stuff at this point.

Sirius flipped the paper around and then let it drop on the table as he let out a loud laugh. He looked down at Regulus and said," my mother taught him how to write." Then Sirius thumped his forehead and Regulus pushed him away. Sirius just laughed and walked around the table to stand by James.

James and Lily nodded as if that explained everything and Regulus was just glad they didn't carry on with the topic any longer as James stood up from his chair and grabbed Sirius by the arm.

"Bye Regulus Black," James said firmly looking at the boy then turned sharply to Lily," goodbye dearest Lily," and then he started walking away. "And see you around Emmeline!" he tossed over his shoulder as he pulled Sirius out of the library.

"Boys are weird," Emmeline concluded and Lily gave her a high five of solidarity. Regulus looked down at his work then back at his friends.

"Should I change my handwriting? James said he couldn't read it?" Regulus asked them and they both shook their heads.

"James is an idiot," Lily laughed and Emmeline added," don't worry you can definitely read it."

"It's just mature and a lot nicer than what you expect from an eleven year old boy," Lily finished and gave him a soft smile and a pat on his hands before she turned back to her work.

"When's lunch?" Emmeline asked snapping Regulus out his odd daze and the boy just shrugged and copied his redhead housemate and re-situated his books and quill and got back to work.
