I'm going to be very blunt: this is an extremely disturbing chapter.

So here is my official warning:

This chapter contains graphic descriptions of torture, including cutting, beating, bone breaking, mutilation, severing of fingers, whipping, slapping, iron branding, choking, degradation, and implications of sexual assault. There is also a detailed death scene involving someone's throat being slit, as well as another where someone is stabbed and sliced in the abdomen.

I was VERY uncomfortable writing this chapter, especially since I have severe Virginitiphobia and even looking at that certain word (r̶*̶p̶e̶) can make me have a panic attack.

So please, for the love of god, please do not say I'm glorifying assault. This is a very real thing, and was extremely common in medieval times, which is the lifestyle The Claim is set in. And honestly, it still happens too much today. It happens, it is real.

I DO NOT ENJOY WRITING THIS SHIT, BUT IT IS VITAL TO THIS STORY. IT IS NOT DESCRIBED IN DETAIL, JUST A FADE-TO-BLACK TYPE OF SCENE.

This is not just a shock factor thing. Throughout the series, there are so many situations where Maya is faced with her PTSD, but this goes a lot further than just the assault. SO many things she does in the future are direct metaphors for what happened to her, so please, don't think that this is only for the shock factor and "bad guy bad." Yes, he is bad, but there is so much more to this than just him being bad.

i can't wait to get canceled e̶v̶e̶n̶ ̶t̶h̶o̶u̶g̶h̶ ̶I̶ ̶h̶a̶v̶e̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶b̶e̶ ̶f̶a̶m̶o̶u̶s̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶b̶e̶ ̶c̶a̶n̶c̶e̶l̶e̶d̶

Once again, I will put an indicator of when the assault begins, as that is the most potentially triggering thing here. I will also add an indicator of when this ends, so if you wish to just skip that part, you can continue at the marked point.

Please be careful reading this chapter. Remember to think about your health first.

The tip of Minjun's knife trailed down my chest, raising gooseflesh in its wake. It was not pressed hard enough to harm, but the threat was there. When it lingered over my heart, I could not stop the shiver that rippled through my body. A drop of blood welled up around the tip and soon gathered enough to roll down the blade.

I shut my eyes against the feeling, knowing that there would soon be more. The knife resumed its trace of my body, leaving a thin line of red behind it as the blood was wiped onto my skin. I bit my lower lip, trying to fight back the fear that was threatening to overtake me.

The vibrant red liquid started to pour out of my fresh wounds, cascading down my body and dripping onto the ground underneath me. My suffering went on for what seemed like forever. I cried harder and harder with each passing minute.

The darkness coupled with the chains made it impossible for any hope of being able to feel or see anything. My arms were pinned to my sides, my legs kicking and scraping uselessly on the dust-covered ground as I lay trapped.

The knife was brought up to my arms and I felt a sharp pain as it was dug into my skin, right along the top of the bone. I gasped and then flinched when a tongue joined the exploration of my body. Minjun lapped up the blood that sprang from the wound. My labored breathing allowed me to speak just a few words.
