"wow, this food's pretty good," Sans says, biting into a piece of a piece of meat.
"I know right," Percy says. "That's what I said when I ate this stuff for the first time."
"Sans, what kind of monster are you exactly?" Hazel asks. "You're a skeleton, that's apparent, but you're the most casual skeleton I've ever seen. You're practically radiating life energy despite being a skeleton and I don't feel the pull of the Underworld on you."
"i didn't know there were more than one kind of monster," Sans says, leaning back on his chair, picking up the goblet in front of him.
"That thing can refill whatever you drink you want on command as long as it's not alcoholic," Percy says, pointing to the goblet with a wedge of cheese.
"really?" Sans asks. "any drink? hmmm...."
The goblet fills with shiny red liquid. Sans brings it to his teeth and starts 'drinking' it down.
"ah yes, that's the stuff," Sans says, wiping his teeth with the sleeve of his jacket. Frank beside him recoils a bit at that.
"Dude, is that blood?" Frank asks, staring into the goblet.
"does it smell like blood to you?" Sans asks.
"No, it kinda smells like...ketchup?"
"ding ding ding."
Sans brings the goblet up to his teeth again, drinking down more ketchup.
"This guy is beyond anything I've ever imagined," Piper says, admiring Sans gulping down ketchup.
"I wanna try that, actually," Jason says, his goblet filling with ketchup.
"Jason, don't, I swear to the gods."
" 'Kay, Pipes, whatever you say."
"You're able to eat food and drink stuff as a skeleton?" Hazel asks. "Skeletons shouldn't be capable of that. Where does it all go anyway?"
"magic."
"I have so many questions about this," Hazel says, rubbing her temples.
"So Sans, why don't you tell us a bit more about yourself?" Jason asks.
"sure thing, kiddo," he says. "uh, i'm sans, sans the skeleton, the sole survivor of a massacre that nearly killed all of monster kind. i'm the royal judge of king asgore and am in charge of confronting anybody who wishes to face him."
"The sole survivor of a massacre that nearly killed all of monster kind?" Percy asks. "But, I'm still meeting monsters running about everyday."
"Seaweed Brain, I think he's talking about a different group of monsters," Annabeth says, putting up her thinking face. "I remember reading about an old tale concerning humans and monsters, one of the only myths that doesn't involve the gods."
"once upon a time, humans and monsters lived in peace on the surface world," Sans says. "but then, one day, the monsters declared war on the humans. the humans beat the monsters into the underground, where 7 magicians created a magical barrier to seal them under the ground forever."
"Yeah, that's the ultra-short version of it," Annabeth says.
"I've heard of that myth before," Jason says. "But, it's just that, a myth. Demigods have been looking for the Underground for centuries, with the help of the gods, and have found absolutely nothing."
"have you been looking in the right places?" Sans asks.
"They've searched every single mountain in the world," Jason says. "Hell, they even got permissions from the gods to search Mt. Olympus for any traces of these mysterious monsters and found nothing."
