"whaddaya think?" Sans says, after blasting a huge boulder with a gaster blaster about as big as Leo.

"That's pretty powerful," Leo says.  "If my mental calculations are correct, 3 or 4 of these are enough to collapse the base of an average-sized 2-story house.  And these are the small ones, correct?"

"yep," Sans says.  "these are the ones i use on a usual basis when fighting.  they take minimal energy to summon and fire and do generous amounts of damage.  the bigger ones take longer to charge before firing and take up more stamina to summon at the expense of a more powerful beam.  though i prefer using these smaller ones, i will use the bigger ones if necessary."

"So, you can basically destroy whole buildings without breaking a sweat," Leo says.  "Better not left the Ares campers realize that or they're gonna find a way to turn you into a live minefield for capture the flag or some other camp minigame."

"living minefield?" Sans asks.

"Just don't do any big demonstrations of power around them," Leo says.  "You'll appreciate taking that advice."

"ok then," Sans says.  "anyways, i'll leave you a live gaster blaster if you wanna play around with it more.  just pat it twice in the head and hold it as far away from your body as possible.  it'll fire.  you might also wanna put your back up against a tree.  so you don't go flying back."

Sans teleports away, dropping the small gaster blaster they used for testing in front of Leo.  Leo picks it up.

"Oof, this is pretty heavy," he mutters, aiming it at a tree.  He pats it twice on the head.

There's a vwooooo sound before a light blue beam fires from the blaster's maw.  The force of it sends Leo flying back and into another tree.  The laser cuts a scorching path right through the forest, destroying a whole lot of trees.

"Oh boy, the nymphs aren't going to be too happy about this," Leo says, patting the gaster blaster once on a head and catching himself before patting it a second time.  "Well, we're gonna have lots of fun, little buddy."

Sans leans back into his chair, shuffling through the folders in one a bright yellow binder.  He chuckles.

"heh, no matter why these guys terminated this project," he says to himself.  "these guys were idiots.  it'd take me more time to fix all the errors in these design plans than it would for me to actually build the thing."

Sans grabs a pencil and a sheet of yellow paper and starts on his own design plans based on what was left from the original workers on the project.

Sans just sat at the workbench, working.  It wasn't completely quiet due to the other kids working on their own projects in the workshop.  But, it was fairly quiet in the private little room.  The lack of sound was welcoming when he worked.

i'm gonna have to thank leo for allowing me to use his workbench later.

He looks to the little digital clock to his left.  A few hours had gone by without him noticing.

"i should probably check in on the kid," Sans says, tapping his chin bone with a pen.  "nah, he'll be fine.  he's probably just not keeping track of time."

Sans gets back to work.  He hears the door creak open.

"heya kiddo," Sans says.  "had fun?"

"What are you?" somebody asks in reply.

He turns to see that depressed-looking kid from before.  He's still wearing all black.

"oh heya," Sans greets.  "sorry, thought you were someone else."
