Chapter Eleven: Distances Between Us
I didn't tell Logan anything about it. I hid my worries behind a smile and treated Logan as if I was fine. Although I was still stuck on why Hunter would do that.
As it was nearing lunch time, I had to stay behind to get something from my locker.
"I'll see you later, babe," Logan replied, kissing my forehead.
"I won't take that long," I said.
"Mm-hmm," Logan said sarcastically before walking off.
I was now walking to my locker and was opening the lock when I heard footsteps. It sounded like they were coming slowly towards me. Turning around, it was Hunter who looked sad and morose.
"Can we talk, Anastasia?" Hunter asked, looking me in my eyes.
"I really have to be going," I answered, trying to avoid him.
"It'll be quick, I promise," Hunter replied, "I apologize for what happened yesterday. I was upset after our argument and got totally wasted. I couldn't control myself, Ana. I know you think I'm making excuses but I'm really not. But what I am hoping you're thinking is that you'll take me back. At least to give me another chance."
"Give me one good reason why I shouldn't just flat out reject you and leave," I said harshly, my blood boiling.
"Because I...I love you, Ana. As maybe more than a best friend. Maybe even more than being best friends with benefits," Hunter confessed.
Tears stung my eyes and were threatening to spill out.
"You don't mean that. You can't mean that. You are not about to ruin everything I've worked so hard to maintain to forget about the mistake we both made that night. Sure, maybe I've shared similar feelings but I woke up. Why don't you?" I said, almost crying.
"I did. It wasn't a mistake. It was what was supposed to happen. Obviously we aren't meant to be friends," Hunter argued.
"You're right. We should stop being friends. We need space. We need to stop this all right now," I said with a sniffle.
Hunter edged closer to me before saying, "I've tried that already and you know what happened? I was miserable without you. I've never felt this way about any girl. You know about all the girls I've dated already. None of them, not even Samantha Caris, can compare to you. Either you believe me or don't. But I believe in us."
He tilted my chin so I can look into his eyes. And I found myself getting lost in his eyes that were a gorgeous ocean blue. I leaned in and kissed Hunter this time.
-> LOGAN
I saw her kiss him and I knew my suspicions were true.
It broke my heart. It really did.
It was pretty obvious to me that Ana And Hunter were seeing eachother the moment I first met him in the cafeteria. But the worst part of it all was that she lied to me. She told me no.
Obviously, she had some explaining to do.
I walked away from the sight and stormed into the lunchroom. By the time Ana finally arrived, she looked like there was dried tears on her face that she tried to wipe off.
"You ok?" I asked.
"Of course. I was just using the bathroom," Ana replied.
Every lie she said added up in my mind.
"Ana?" I asked.
"Hmm?" Ana answered.
"Wanna hang out after school again? I wanna talk to you about something," I replied.
"Of course," Ana answered, nodding, "What for?"
"You'll see when we get there," I replied simply.
"Oh. Ok," Ana said, wiggling her eyebrows.
I let out a small laugh but couldn't seem to get very interested in it.
If anything, I wanted a giant hole to swallow me up.
Oh my God!!! Logan knows... Holy shit!!! What will happen now? Will he confront Ana? Or keep his knowledge to himself at the sake of keeping her? Comment with your thoughts about the situation.
