-𝘿𝙤𝙣'𝙩 𝙎𝙩𝙤𝙥 𝘽𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙚𝙫𝙞𝙣𝙜, 𝙅𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙣𝙚𝙮Clay was in tears as (Y/n) held him tight. "I thought...I thought no one was coming for me." he cried. "All I remember was that blast, and then--and then it was like I was stuck in this never ending nightmare." He heaved in a breath that shook (Y/n)'s whole world. "Ma'am, I was killing you, and so were my brothers. We were all..." Clay's voice cracked and he sobbed. His shoulders shook, and he struggled to breathe, so (Y/n) brought him closer. "It's over Clay," her own voice was unsteady, "it's over. All of it."
"But the nightmares--ma'am, the nightmares."
"I know Clay, I know. It's over."
She didn't have the heart to tell him that the Republic had fallen. She didn't have the heart to say that Palpatine, the Chancellor so many trusted, was the figure that triggered it all, and that it was partially (Y/n)'s fault for not ending it. She couldn't find the right words to comfort him either, so she rubbed his back as he let it all out. She didn't care how long it took for him to compose himself because she was still struggling too. Her heart was in pieces, and hope was so far away.
But it wasn't over, not yet. She had to stop Palpatine, no matter what it took. For her boys, for Fives, for her Master and all the fallen Jedi who she could have saved. It was time to change something, and (Y/n) silently vowed to do so once she got off this forsaken planet. "Ma'am..." Clay wasn't a soldier now, he was a child whose life had been swiped right under him. "...How many years have gone by? How long was I gone for?" (Y/n) didn't know how to answer him, and that was because she didn't want to answer him. She hated thinking about time, especially since she lost so much of it. If it weren't for the impending doom constantly hanging over her head, she would have had an existential crisis right about now.
"Too long." she simply stated. "Come on, we have to find the others."
"Others?"
(Y/n) gave Clay's hand a good squeeze before scooping Storm and Pepper's helmets off the ground and hauling herself off the ground. "We crash landed after a run-in with the..." she trailed off, uncertainty finally settling into her voice. Clay, the brilliant lad, took note of that as he wiped his eyes with his palm. "Something wrong?"
"Everything." (Y/n) clenched a fist and kicked a stray rock. She whipped around to face Clay as he stood in bewilderment. "I'm sorry Clay, I'm sorry, I'm so sorry." She didn't think it was best to tell him anything, but if he was going to see his brothers, they were bound to tell him sooner or later. Clay hated being kept in the dark, so even if no one decided to tell him right away, he would find out on his own.
"The Republic fell decades ago. Your nightmare was real and it happened under the code 'Order 66'--an order to kill all the Jedi. Fives and I found out about it before it happened. It was the fault of chips built into every clones' genetic code, but we weren't fast enough. He died, then I was kidnapped by Dooku. Chancellor Palpatine is evil, and he destroyed the Jedi Order, the Republic--everything. Rex, The Nova Squad and a few others are all that remain and I...I-I'm sorry Clay. I'm so, so, so sorry." (Y/n) had the urge to cry again, but she couldn't. Not in front of Clay when he had to deal with the crushing reality of today.
