I wanted to know more abour our new found friend, but apparently she started drifting-off.
"Hmmm, guess she couldn't take new faces." I said.
"Maybe she just can't take your face Derek." Dale said in reply.
"Ha-ha very funny."
"It seems like, she's still recovering. We must give her some time to rest, especially after all she's been through today." said Argo. "I'll see to it that she will come about. In the mean time, why don't you two get some rest? You will have a lot of time to talk with her tomorrow." Added our medicine man.
"Argo's right, we should be heading back. We have more important errands to run the next day, better wake-up early for them." Replied Dale.
Made sense.
As we headed out the hospital wing, it felt like I was still connected in her mind. All I saw was pain and torment. Not a single memory was happy.
My uncle then noticed me in deep thought.
"You alright?" He asked me.
"Yeah, just you know... thinking."
"Well that's a first." He replied.
I gave him a serious-look.
"Alright, okay, okay, I was just kidding. Anyway, what happened back there? Did she do anything to you?"
I told him everything.
The village, the darkness and her journey.
He looked quite amused.
*sigh*, "The true bearing of a repmuj (jumper). Wish I could experience it some time," he replied.
"Ha, trust me, you don't."
"Such a shame." He replied
And as he said this, it was high time we went back to our respective rooms. It was already late at night and I couldn't wait for the sun to rise. But once I was about to reach the handle, my uncle called me:
"Hey, Derek, sorry about, you know earlier. I just wanted to know if you were safe. You know how every relative is always concerned for their family. They're just like a family of ducklings..."
Ugh, there he goes about the family again....
I stopped him in mid-sentence.
"Okay uncle. I get it. Don't worry about me.Good night." I told him.
"Yeah sorry, haha, my bad, have a pleasant night."
"OH! And uncle!"
He looked at me, with the same concerned but yet, happy smile on his face.
"Thanks." I told him.
I knew he was smiling.
I was glad that I could finally have a decent rest. But I had a feeling that something was missing. Well, whatever it was, I might as well look for it the next day.
The stars outside were oddly shining brighter than usual.
"You did good, Derek, you did good." I whispered to myself.
That night, I slept like a wee baby.
It was a very unforgettable day indeed.
