Chapter 53

An hour later my whole family waltzes through my front door. I clench Lucifer's leather jacket in my fist when he tries to walk past me. I pull his ear next to my mouth.

'I asked for Sheila, not the whole goddamn parade.' I say through my teeth.

'I called Sheila and she was at work. She asked if it was an emergency and I told her yes, of course she was going to tell dad.' Lucifer says, grabbing my hand and pulling it away from his jacket.

'I am still your older brother, don't pull at my jacket.' He straightens his collar and I roll my eyes.

My dad walks up to me and I quickly put my hands under the blanket. I don't want him to see my knuckles. He presses a kiss on my head and I see Adriana walking up to me.

Why did they all have to come? I appreciate it, but it's too much for me right now.

'Everyone.' Lucifer opens his arms. 'We will be leaving Liz and Sheila alone for a bit, so prepare yourself for a trip to the city two minutes from here.' He smiles.

'We just got here.' My dad says.

'And I said we will be leaving in two minutes.' Lucifer says with annoyance in his voice.

I chuckle and my dad asks how I'm doing. I lie and tell him I'm doing perfectly fine. Adriana hands me a box of chocolate.

'We don't even know what the fuck is going on. What is the emergency?' My dad puts his hands in his pockets.

'Let's just go.' Lucifer puts his hand on my dad's shoulder and pulls him to the front door.

Sheila walks up to the couch and sits down next to me, greeting Shawn with a smile.

'I'm going with your family, I need to buy some dry clothes.' Shawn looks at his wet t-shirt.

'Yeah.' I chuckle and he gives me a quick kiss on my lips.

'Oh, and Lucifer, you can tell Shawn when you're outside. I'd rather not do it myself.' I say.

Lucifer nods and Shawn stares at us a moment before putting his shoes on.

Shawn's POV

In silence, we all walk to the elevator. I want to know what happened to her.

Sam called me and I could hear the panic in his always so stern voice. If Sam, the bodybuilder, was freaking out, something bad must have happened. All he said was "There is blood everywhere!".

I hung up on him and drove way too fast over the highway to get to The Hague. I can expect a lot of speeding tickets when I arrive home.

'You and Adriana should go to that store, they have a lot of cool gaming stuff.' Lucifer says to Adriana and Gerard.

'Can you please tell me what happened?' I ask when Lucifer turns to face me.

'Yes, but don't freak out.'

'I am going to freak out, no matter what you tell me, so just get it over with.' I respond.

'That guy from her work... what's his name again?'

'Bakker, Gijs Bakker?'

'Yes... well, how am I going to say this...' He exhales and I see his hand shake. 'He tried to rape her. I don't know what happened, but that's the only thing Liz managed to say about it.'

I don't say anything. It feels like he just hit me in the face with this information. I inhale and exhale a few times, feeling the anger rise in my chest.
