Chapter Ten

Okayyyyyy. I know I am super super late, and I am soooo sorry for that. You know I was supposed to post this last Sunday, but things didnt go as planned. I am really really sorry for that but I had genuine reasons. I was terribly sick and then it was followed by my best friends wedding, which was physically and mentally exhausting!!!

People who follow me on Instagram have seen my crazy last couple of weeks. And on top of that my new job, is quite exhausting. I am still working on adjusting my schedule according to my work, but I am not sure, how will it work out.

I have an important announcement: From next week onwards, this story will be updated on Sundays, but not Wednesday. I will tell you why, because I am working in night shift now and my first half of the day, goes in getting up, gym and getting ready for work. So writing on a working day is next to impossible. I am getting super tired by the end of the day. So next update on Next Sunday!

Thats all for now, Its a short update, but this is what I could manage. Sorryyyy!

Manik and Nandini were sitting next to each other in the living room, holding hands, providing the necessary support. Raj and Nyonika were seated opposite to them along with Dadu and Dj. Mukti was in college to submit her end semester assignments. Kishore and Shalini were with them through video call. God bless the technology!

"Mom Dad, now you guys are scaring us! Please say something" Manik said after a long silence.

Raj looked at Nyonika and gestured her to break the news.

"We don't have any issues if you guys want to get married" she said and Manik and Nandini beamed in happiness. Manik squeezed Nandini in a side hug and before they could celebrate the same, she continued

"But, not immediately" The smile dropped from Manan's faces and they frowned in confusion.

"Then when?" Manik asked genuinely confused

Raj took the lead this time and spoke

"You are an year ahead of Nandini academically. So first you finish your internship, by that time, she will be entering her final and crucial year and we don't want to disturb her in anyway." Manik was about to interrupt but Raj cut him off

"Listen to me first, then you can speak up" hearing his strict tone, Manik nodded in a yes. Nandini squeezed his hand and blinked her eyes assuring him that everything would be fine.

"Okay, so you both will get married only after Nandini has written her final year exams. And meanwhile, Manik you, you will go and join your masters in London. We don't want to compromise on your career as well. Its just a matter of 7-8 months. You can get married in your semester break. We will find Nandini an internship in London, so that she can continue it after you guys settle down there. While you finish your masters, she will complete her course and work there or continue her studies, that's completely her choice.

In this way, neither of you will not be compromising your dreams and can stay together as well"

After Raj finished there was a very uncomfortable silence. Manik and Nandini were too shocked at the turn of events to even utter a word. They were expecting something similar from their parents, but hearing it, made it difficult for them to digest.

Manik was literally devastated. His worst nightmare was coming true. They were asking him to leave Nandini, though not permanently but temporary itself was scaring the shit out of him.

Nandini was getting worried for Manik, because his face was literally blank and it had turned so pale, that it scared her. She put her hand on his shoulder, but he didn't even recognise her touch. Pushing the tears on the corner of her eyes, she gently cupped his face and turned it towards her.

"Manik" she called him softly and his eyes finally moved and settled on her face.

"Say something please" she whispered in a tone filled with worry and pain and his trance broke. He stood up abruptly and said in a final tone

"I am not going anywhere. I am not leaving Nandini, even if it is for few hours, forget about months. I will be going if and only if she is accompanying me and no one will be able to change my decision regarding that."

He stormed away to his room and a worried Nandini ran after him.

"He is just like you" Dadu said and hit Raj's head from behind

"Papa yaar, how is this my fault now" Raj whined making the ladies sigh in disbelief.

"Malhotras" Dadi and Nyonika muttered to themselves.

Kishore and Shalini had ended the call as they know that, they would be informed in case of an emergency situation, which they knew wouldn't arise in the supervision of the elder Malhotras: Dadu and Dadi.
