Warning: This chapter is extremely long. Hope it was worth the wait <3

Luminous sunlight filled the empty hallway, as the beams of warmth heated the crimson red carpet in the middle of the pathway. Two pairs of footsteps lightly echoed through the corridor as they rounded the corner and the hall suddenly filled with two distinctly different voices.

"For the last time, where the hell were you last night?!" Drew thundered, gritting his teeth.

"I told you, I was in my room," Hailey sighed in reply.

"And once again, I told you that one of my guards noticed that your room was empty."

"I went to the garden at one point because I couldn't sleep, that must've been when my room was checked."

"And your excuses sound too convenient."

Hailey furiously glared at the contempt ruler. "Why can't you just trust me?"

"Because you've given me no reason to."

"So being betrothed to you isn't enough of a reason for you to trust me?!"

"No, of course not, you may be my future wife, but that doesn't mean I have to believe your every word. People are always looking for a reason to stab you in the back."

"Well I'm not shocked people would betray an ungrateful misogynist like yourself."

"Insulting me will get you nowhere."

"It's not supposed to be an insult, it's supposed to be the truth."

Drew glowered at the obsidian-eyed girl, making him appear borderline satanic. "You like telling the truth, huh? I don't suppose you'll like hearing the truth as much."

"Your truth means nothing to me, because your definition of truth is twisted."

"Much like your father's judgment, thinking that by marrying you I'll spare his kingdom from my wrath."

"Believe me, I'm not happy with this arrangement either. I'm sick of being treated like this-

"Like what? My guards are at your every beckon and call, I grant you my hospitality and this is my thank you?!"

"You never let me leave the castle, you never respect my opinion, you never say anything positive about me-

"Because you're an idiot and quite frankly there's nothing even remotely pleasant about you."

"I beg your pardon?!"

"Yes, you heard me. You are an idiot, a naïve, clueless idiot. And the only damn reason I keep you around is because your father is indeed a wealthy man. This kingdom has become far richer since our engagement."

"I'm not even shocked at this point."

"What else would I gain? You're not even pleasant to look at, let alone easy to talk to. You're a freak, you look like one, and you act like one."

"How dare you say that to me?! You've insulted me before, but this is unheard of!"

"It's not supposed to be an insult, it's supposed to be the truth."

He sneered in gratification for using her own words. The sensation of tears were beginning to form in her eyes, but she kept her guard up, refusing to show any sort of weakness towards him.

"What kind of monster are you?" she growled after a minute, forcing herself not to cry.

"A kind of 'monster' willing to kill his own family member to take the throne," he coldly responded.
