"Absolutely not." Kane said, firmly. "You've already exposed yourself. Anything else will make Freya even more suspicious."

"We need that book."

"And we will get it, but not tonight."

I opened my mouth to object but Kane gave me a look that said he wasn't going to let me argue about it.

"Fine." I said, giving in. "Maybe Camille will be useful for us."

"Don't do anything that will expose you. From what I've seen, the witch your cousin hangs around with is power hungry."

Camille was a snake but I couldn't figure out if she was worse than Freya or not. I lived with Freya and she didn't try to hide her hatred for me. Camille, on the other hand, wore a mask and I didn't know which side of her I would get.

If Camille didn't want Freya to know about our meeting, then she was definitely planning something. If she was keeping secrets and going behind Freya's back then she couldn't be that great of a person. I wondered if Freya gave her the same treatment.

Kane nervously cleared his throat and it caught my attention. I had been deep in thought thinking about Camille and Freya. Ugh. What a terrible way to spend my time.

"I-I wanted to ask if you could tell me more about your visions." Kane said. "You never told me what you actually saw."

"The first time I had one of those visions I think I was seeing the first time you met Iris and her sister. It was very brief." I said. "The second was of Iris doing magic and I think her mother was furious. She blamed you for what Iris was doing."

Kane was quiet for a moment and I could tell he was probably thinking about the day he met Iris. I wondered if he had fallen for her as soon as he set eyes on her. A strange feeling came over me and I didn't like it. I didn't like the thought of Kane liking someone else.

"Do you still love her?" I asked.

Kane didn't hesitate when he answered. "No."

I believed him, but it also made me wonder at what point did he stop loving her. I wanted to ask but I also didn't want to push him on such a sensitive topic. Besides, why did I even care?

I had to care. Not because I had feelings for Kane or anything like that. I had to care because if I brought Kane back, then Iris would be back too. Who knew what kind of trouble she was going to be. It didn't guarantee me that Kane wouldn't fall at her feet all over again.

"You might change your mind the next time you see her." I couldn't help but say.

Kane shook his head. "There is too much history between the two of us that can not be ignored or forgotten. I could never forget she is the reason I am where I am. I spent so many years alone with no real contact to the living world."

"I guess we'll have to be as best prepared as we can be when you're both back." I said, and then sighed. "If my mom finds out she's going to kill me."

Freya's words still rang in my ears. Not for long. She thought I wouldn't have my magic for much longer. My mom was really going to go through with it.

What if I came up with a plan that would change her mind? I could show her how in control of my powers I am. Although, bringing back two immortals would definitely not win me any points.

"She won't find out. I don't believe your cousin will say a word. To do so will be a blow to her ego. She does not wish to seem weak or frightened of you."

"I hope you're right or else this whole thing will be over before it really even began."

Kane didn't say anything but I could see in his eyes that he knew I was right. There were still so many things that I had to figure out. It was starting to give me a headache.
