Chapter 10: The Guardian Of This Trial

We've got through the first part of the test, traveling through the maze, and almost got towards the goal thanks to the help of my friends and especially Aquin who recorded the map of this labyrinth. It took about a few days. Of course, we ended up seeing other teams because they are participating in this trial. The time limit is a week, so we can't rest for long.

Ok, since we're resting well and preparing to face the boss of this labyrinth, I have my hand on the door and push it open. We all got in. While we face the front, we see a figure of a person but a different head shape. "That's..." Heiya comments. The hair of his body is grey and his legs are like animal shape. His arms are human function and so do his hands. His ears are animal shape. He has his dull clothing but as monsters. His face looks disgusted while having his eyes completely yellow and his teeth are sharp. And don't forget his tail. His mouth is drooling since he found us as his prey. "A gray wolf beast!"

"Fool, I am the wolf of the bandit beast!" He roars against us. Baren clings behind Marferd while he draws out his sword. We all cover ourselves while planning to prepare for combat. I can see other people who are struggling to deal with him. There has to be a reason.

"So that's the boss? And we have to defeat it?" Marferd asks.

"It seems that way. Everyone, ready up." Heiya replies. I nod while drawing out my bastard sword. Heiya readies her spear aiming at the wolf beast. Wait, did he say bandit? Does that mean...?

"So, another one dares to challenge me!?" The wolf beast draws out his blade from his sheath. It's dull while having stains on it.

"...!" It's horrifying as I look at it. Does that mean he...?

"Y/n, focus!" Heiya snaps my mind back to reality. "He is indeed powerful who smashes adventurers around, but we're no fools here!" She said to me. The wolf beast is a powerful fighter, but this is something I have to do!

"It will take more than that to defeat me! Some say that those idiots who ditch other people who let them die. You can say that the four sold them out to either of us for their punishment. However, they are still not worthy of the name of adventurers. I'm sure that this world does not need garbage boys like you around. I'll cut them down as my job!" He laughs with no mercy. It made some of us mad but not going to fall that easy.

"Your job isn't just destroying garbage." I reject his words. "You're killing them!" I point my sword towards him.

"Grr, I think you need a lesson." The wolf beast signals his reinforcements.

"Our boss is a beast! SQUADS!" Four gray wolves jump in to join the battle with him. There are five of us but taking the boss might be difficult if those ordinary wolves kept getting in our way. Maybe that's why the other team is struggling to defeat him.

"Then this is where we show what we got!" Heiya readies her spear skills.

"Yeah, let's go!" I ready up. "The backlines should support us and hold off their attacks." Meaning that they should watch our backs.

"Like they ever do, let's deal with his lackeys so we don't get bothered by them later on while we take care of the main goal," Marferd said to me.

"He's right, it won't be easy if they keep getting our backs including our backlines later." Heiya agrees with him. Sometimes, weaklings go first. The method that a strategy game used to say that. I should agree with their idea as well.

"We have to go help, other people!" Aquin demands.

"I'll distract the beast while you guys deal with the four, but I won't hold him for long. Just do it quickly." She said to us. Aquin asks about the other people who are injured. "Fine, but please in a hurry!" Heiya agrees with Aquin's request. We both nodded while Heiya moves in first while the two wolves move towards her. The blade of her spear starts to glow green while having her right hand to the back of the spear. "Spear Stream: Star Rain!" She rapidly thrusts her spear with her meter burn, striking the two front wolves. "I did not say I could fight you!" She moves past through the four gray wolves.
