Now all I can do is wait.
These were the only words flowing through her mind as the box continued to move up at a rapid pace. She realized that her entire endeavour since she'd woken up had only lasted about ten minutes, and that was plenty enough for her. She took a moment to massage her hand, her knuckles now white from gripping the handle of the knife so hard.
She sat for another twenty minutes, she assumed, though it could've been hours based on the fact that she had no way to tell time.
I could close my eyes, just for a moment or two
Her eyelids were heavy, heavier than she thought possible. Her head started drooping as she nodded off, trying not to let her guard down.
That's when she heard it. Her head snapped up and she forced her eyes wide open.
What is that?!
It was ear piercing and extremely annoying.
Is it a siren? No, more like... an alarm, yes an alarm!
The alarm became increasingly loud as the box continued to travel upwards.
I swear to god this piece of shit is just going to keep going up fore-
Her thoughts were stopped by the very abrupt and extremely painful jolt as her head connected with the crate lid above her as the metal box halted to a stop.
The alarm noise stopped
But so did the box...
She gripped the knife tighter than she had before, waiting for something, anything, that might warrant her need for it. A few more seconds passed by before she heard the grinding screech of metal on metal.
The small slats in the crate lid allowed for some light to peek through, dancing on her skin. But this light wasn't artificial, it was sunlight, bright, yellow, happy, warm sunlight that licked at her arms in small stripes. But she was feeling the opposite of of those words, if she could, she'd describe her feeling as dark, black, frightened, cold, loneliness that settled in the pit of her stomach.
As the sunlight streamed in she started to hear voices from above.
"What do you see down there?"
"Did the greenie klunk his pants yet?"
And a voice much closer
"I DON'T SEE A GREENIE"
This voice was sharper, I bit louder than the others, but not panicked, no, it was almost excited.
She felt the box rumble once, twice, two more people had jumped down to search, and she realized she didn't have too much time before they found her. Although she couldn't see, she could sense the space between her and one of the people getting smaller.
"What is it Kyle?"
This voice was soft but assertive, this person sounded like a leader.
"I think"
The voice paused
That must be Kyle
"I think our greenie has built himself an expert little hiding spot"
Before she could react the crate lid was ripped off of her small hiding spot, exposing her to the light. She looked up at the boy, he looked to be about seventeen, he had black hair and greenish yellow eyes, a fairly large build, and an extremely unsettling grin. She looked up at the boy crouched down on the crates, looming over her, and made a split second decision.
She jumped up, surprising that creepy grin off of this boy, Kyle's face, before bringing the knife up as high as she could muster...
She brought it back down with force, plunging it straight into Kyle's foot. She heard the sound of the knife ripping through fabric before hitting his foot, she heard the crunch of the knife as it cracked the fragile bones, and the dull thud of the knife as I went straight through the thin sole of his shoe, lodging itself in the wood of the crate.
But none of it was as bad as the sound that came from his throat. It was guttural and raw, but aside from the sound of pain, it was a cry of rage. It stunned her for a moment, paralyzing her in her spot. But she couldn't stay within reach of the boy, he was already grabbing for her while trying not to move his foot.
"I'm gonna kill you you little BITCH"
His hands reached for her throat as she hopped over the crates, only to be faced by two more boys. The boys looked at her with utter shock, an expression that she undoubtedly returned. One boy had dark skin, short hair, and a small aura of humble superiority.
That must be the leader
She glanced at the other boy now, he looked perplexed as he squinted at her just slightly, he had blond hair and an uneven stance, and, well, he wasn't too awful to look at if she was being honest.
She could read his eyes, and she noticed him tense under her gaze, it was slight, but she noticed.
She snapped out of her trance and looked around hurriedly, boys, all boys. They looked to be teenagers, and she wondered how old she was.
She couldn't have been standing there for more than three seconds when Kyle brought her attention back to the situation at hand. He was yelling profanities at her and trying to get to her with one hand whilst clutching his foot with the other. She looked back towards the boys and decided she needed to get away from here, and fast.
Well this'll be fun
