"Have you eaten dinner, Jia?"

"I'm not hungry, Jeon."

"I'll just order pizza ok? You shouldn't miss dinner."

He proceeded to swipe through his phone before she could protest. He looked so sad and tired she wanted to hug him. After ordering he excused himself and got changed. His hair was damp from the shower when he got out, dressed in just joggers and a sweatshirt. He sat down beside her and smiled tiredly.

"Long day?' She asked, looking at him fondly.

"Kind of."

"It's your birthday, you should've taken it easy today."

"It's alright. What a day, though."

"Why don't you just sleep it off? Do you have work tomorrow?"

"No, I planned to just sleep tomorrow. Please don't think of leaving, it's actually nice to see you."

"Open your gift, Jeon."

He took the small gift bag from her and found a velvet jewelry box inside. He looked at her questioningly, shaking the bag jokingly.

"Open the box, you dork."

His mouth formed an "o" when he saw what was inside, looking at her wide-eyed. It was a pocket watch, the old-fashioned kind with a chain attached to it.

He always wanted one since he was still in college, and told Jia about it when they were in a National Geographic exhibit

He always wanted one since he was still in college, and told Jia about it when they were in a National Geographic exhibit.

"You remembered," He said, smiling happily. He didn't want to, nor was he expecting it, but his heart suddenly felt so light. "Come here."

He moved forward to hug her, not intending the hug to last but he couldn't let her go just yet. She hugged him back as well but pulled away first, and then their eyes met. He kissed her cheek and smiled widely at her, the kind of smile that turned his eyes into thin slits, and her heart soared. She cupped his jaw with a hand.

"Are you ok now?"

"Yes, best birthday gift. And I wasn't referring to just the watch."

They were staring at each other again. Jeon's eyes have always been his best feature, two shiny onyx orbs with tiny lights shining in them, like galaxies reflected in his eyes. He was moving closer to her, making her heart hammer behind her ribs. The doorbell suddenly rang, startling both of them, making them laugh awkwardly.

"The pizza! I forgot all about it."

He rushed to the door. He came back with a big box of mouth-watering thick crust pizza and some chicken. Her stomach growled, she realized this was her first meal for the day. She was too busy with her research earlier and forgot to eat.

They feasted on the pizza, chicken, and soda, reminiscing the times they had no money, and ate ramyeon and gimbap dinners that they made themselves.
