BB-40's alarm went off, waking me up with its annoying tone. I sighed, burying my face into my pillow momentarily before getting up. I threw on the clothes I wore yesterday, too lazy to grab any clean clothes. Not like any clean ones were laying around. There was laundry that was to be done but it wasn't like I had the time to do it.
I grabbed a quick breakfast before going to the medbays. I was sent to do inventory and taking in some patients. There was a lot to do and I was constantly moving. I was given more to do than the previous day, which kept me on my toes and running around. I could see why inventory hadn't been done very well or organized in any way. I didn't even have time to eat lunch. It was go, go, go, the entire time. Which is why when dinner came around, I fell into my usual spot next to Tallie, a sigh escaping my lips.
"Busy day in the med bays?" Tallie asked.
I nodded, hiding a yawn behind a hand. "Yeah. The head doctor had me running around and doing a million things at once. And inventory had gone to shit so I've been working on that."
"It's just like the rest of this godforsaken base," Stomeroni said. "Going to shit. But they've got you so they haven't gone completely to the dumps yet."
I smiled. "Yeah, not yet. But there's still a lot that I have to do. They certainly need the help so I'll be there for a bit longer."
"That's okay," Tallie said. "As long as you're helping people. That's all that matters."
"Yes, ma'am," I replied.
"Does anyone know when Poe's coming back?" Stomeroni asked out of the blue.
Everyone around us shook their heads. No one had a solid answer. Poe had been gone for a couple of days and should be arriving anytime within the next few. I was still a little worried about him. He was a hotshot and got in trouble a lot. But he was taking longer than he normally would on missions like his current one. It wasn't my place to worry. Poe was a commander. He could handle himself.
After the meal was over, everyone got up and spirited away to wherever they needed to go. I returned to the medbays, jumping right into the chaos. I was pulled in a million different directions but my shift was over within a few hours. I didn't mind the chaotic nature. I was born for stuff like this.
It was late when I returned to my room with BB-40 at my side. She went to her charging port, shutting off quietly. I changed into sleep clothes and fell asleep quite quickly. I was dead on my feet.
I was woken up by BB-40. Buring my face into the pillow, I heaved a heavy sigh. Another day in the medbays was ahead and it was going to be tiring. But it was worth it. Helping people was always worth it. It was my life's work to help people.
I finally got out of bed and got to work within the hour. I strolled right into work and was sent to start working on patients with minor issues. Nothing too serious. It seemed like that was what I was going to do all day instead of doing inventory. Thankfully. It was better than when I first got there but I didn't want to spend my entire day just doing that.
My first patient had a broken arm. She had fallen from her x-wing and her arm caught the brunt of the fall. I put the bone back in place and put it in a cast. I even allowed her to pick out the color. Once I was done, I gave her some pain medications and sent her on her way with a warning not to climb on any equipment.
Later on, I was taking a break when several people started shouting. I went towards the noise and found multiple doctors surrounding a man. I pushed my way into the crowd, finding the one and only Poe Dameron laying on the table. He was covered in scratches and bruises, looking like he just went through hell.
He grinned up at me. "Hey, Naaraa. How are you doing?"
"What the hell did you get into?" I exclaimed. "You look like absolute shit."
Poe hissed as some of the deeper wounds were cleaned out. "I got taken by the First Order. I'm fine though."
I placed a hand on his forehead, brushing aside some hair. "I call bullshit. You don't have a fever but you still look terrible. They might keep you for a day or two."
Poe shrugged a little. "That doesn't bother me. A little rest won't kill me. At least I know you're worried about me."
I glared at him. "Yeah, okay." The main doctor entered the room. "I have to go but I'll be back, okay?"
"I'll hold you on that," Poe called after me as I left.
I had to get back to work but Poe was on my mind the entire time. He looked terrible and like absolute shit. He was in good hands, however, and I knew he would be okay. The rest of my shift went by fast and as soon as I was off, I got food for Poe and I. I returned to the medical bay and went to Poe's room, taking a chair with me. Poe immediately smiled up at me when I came in.
"Hey, beautiful," Poe greeted. "How are you doing?"
I chuckled as I sat down, throwing my feet up on his bed. "I brought you some food in case you were hungry. Your favorite, as always. You do look like you need a little something in you and I'm not going to give you alcohol."
"Bummer." Poe had a neutral expression on his face but there wasn't something hidden behind his eyes. "I was hoping to swallow some of this pain away."
"Was it really that bad?" The seriousness of what happened to him was filling the room then. "Being taken by the First Order like that? It must have been tough on you. I can only imagine."
Poe shrugged, wincing. "One day I'll tell you, Naaraa. But now, hand over the food so I can eat. I'm starving."
Handing over the plate, I started eating along with him. In no time, we were joking around. But there was something off. There was a different atmosphere in the room. Poe was smiling and laughing but there was something behind his eyes that made me sad for him. The past couple of days must have been terrible for him. Being tortured by the First Order like that. It was something I could only imagine. I had luckily remained unscathed in that sense but being a Jedi, I felt the pain and torture that everyone who went through felt. One of the many curses that came with being a Jedi. So I felt everything Poe felt. Everything he wasn't willing to say.
I smiled a little at him. "I hope this made you feel better."
"Certainly," Poe replied. He smacked my thigh. "You're good company."
I rolled my eyes. "Yeah, okay. I'll see you tomorrow, okay? I'm here for half the day before I'm returning to pilot's duty."
"Are you going back to duty then?" Poe asked.
I nodded. "Yeah. I'm needed there anyway. I'll come back here and help if I'm needed but I've been gone too long. Everyone on Blue Squadron misses me anyway."
"I missed you," Poe said. "While I was gone. I'm glad to see you again."
I smiled too. "I missed you too, Poe. Do you want me to stick around for a little longer or do you want me to leave?"
Poe held out a hand. "Can you stick around, please? I need some company."
I took his hand. "Of course. I'll be here for you as long as you'd like."
