I got up, beginning my day. It was the beginning of my first couple of shifts in the medical bays. Tallie had already been notified that I was going to be unavailable for a few days. So instead of my normal pilot's jumpsuit, I put on a pair of black cargo looking pants and a plain gray shirt. As I left my dorm, BB-40 followed close behind me. The little droid was a great little helper.

I arrived at the medic bay and checked in. I was sent to do low-level medical checkups and do inventory. Just a little stuff that I could handle. It wasn't a terrible first start to the day but it certainly helped me feel more useful than doing mechanic work on my x-wing. I enjoyed doing medical work a lot and had thought about going into a medical career but things hadn't worked out like that. There was always the possibility that I could eventually be in the medical field after the war was over. If I didn't have other duties to attend to.

But I had to ignore that for the time being. There were patients to be checked up on and a lot to do with inventory. It was a hot mess to deal with, which was probably why I was sent to deal with it and not someone else who had a million other things to do. But I didn't mind. Doing that kind of stuff gave me something to do and kept my mind off of things I didn't want to think about.

The inventory was the worst out of anything. We were low on a lot of things and I had to fill out the necessary paperwork to maybe get the things we needed. So I spent a lot of the day doing that because not only we were low on a lot, but anything we did have was in a complete mess. It needed some serious reorganization.

But the day flew by in a blink of an eye. I didn't realize what time it was until people started clearing out. I packed things away, vowing to fix whatever I didn't get to that day. My stomach reminded me that I hadn't eaten since that morning so I made my way to the dining hall. It was in the height of the dinnertime rush so the tables were nearly jammed back. It was like we weren't in the midst of a war. It felt almost normal.

I sat down in an empty spot with my group of friends. Easing right into the conversation, I was smiling and laughing in no time. There were a few questions about where I had disappeared off to and all that but it wasn't all that shocking that I wasn't around for a day or so. But it was looking like I would be spending a few days in the med bays so my absence would be more noticeable.

My exhaustion finally getting to me, I left dinner a little early and headed back to my room. BB-40 was at my heels as per usual, chirping little sentences to feel the silence. That was one thing I liked about her. BB-40 talked when I wasn't in the mood to do so. She was a good little droid with great companionship.

When I got into my dorm, I fell into my bed after discarding my clothes on the floor. BB-40 went to her charging port and powered off for the night. I stared up at the wall, processing the day for a moment.  It was going to be another long day with a lot of inventory to be done. It had gone to absolute shit recently and needed a serious upgrade. But I had the time with the basic low-level stuff I had been assigned. But we would see what the next day would bring.
