It had been another busy week at the base. I barely had any sleep and meals were always cut short by something important. So I had to get a meal and go most days. Like what I was doing for lunch. I grabbed a plate of food and headed out. It was finally the end of the week though and I had a day off the next day.
Eating as I walked, I got to the hanger within a few minutes. I met up with Tallie to get instructions for the day. There weren't any drills but some machinery needed to be fixed to she sent me to do that with Jess. We sat on the floor, wires, and tools spread out in between us. We talked a lot as we put things back together. It was more of a chill afternoon but there was still pressure to finish what we doing that day.
"There's a party tonight," Jess said. "Wanna come?"
I moved one of my lekku out of the way. "Sure. I don't have anything else to do. Do you know who else will be there?"
"I am," a voice interrupted.
I looked over and saw Poe coming up to us, BB-8 following close behind him.
"You are?" Jess asked. "I thought you were going to be off doing commander stuff."
Poe shrugged. "I'll be finishing up early so I can go. I'll see you two there?"
"Yeah." I pointed at a pile of tools on a crate. "Can you hand me that screwdriver over there?"
"Yes, ma'am."
"Thank you, sir."
"Do you guys need any help with anything?" Poe asked.
Jess shook her head. "I don't think so. We're all good here."
"Okay," Poe said. "I'll be off now. See you two at the party."
As soon as he got out of earshot, Jess leaned forward, a shit-eating grin on her face. "I'm going to say it now and you can hit me later but I think the commander has something for you."
"No, he doesn't," I immediately denied. "He wouldn't love someone like me."
"Are you sure?" Jess asked. "He has a history of loving several different people, no matter the species. You aren't an exception. And you're very beautiful."
I looked at the bundle of wires in my hands. Jess didn't know I was a Jedi. Neither did Tallie. Or Poe. Or Stomeroni. The only people who knew were Leia and Luke. They knew I wanted to keep my identity a secret. To stay away from Kylo Ren. He would find me and kill me as he did to all those padawans. So I stayed away from using my sabers and powers. I didn't go on many missions in case that a stormtrooper recognized my face from a most-wanted database. There was a high probability that I was on it as not only was I a Resistance fighter but a known padawan of Luke Skywalker. Kylo Ren probably didn't know I was a Jedi.
"Maybe so," I replied, continuing with the wiring. "I think we're close to finishing."
We were quiet the rest of the time we spent rewiring everything. We were done by the time dinner was ready. Jess and I walked to the mess room and sat with Tallie and Stomeroni. Poe came a few minutes later, sitting in the open spot next to me. We were a rambunctious group, loudly laughing and joking around. After we ate, we all split up and went our separate ways. Apparently, everyone wanted some alone time before the party.
I stepped into my room, finding BB-40 on her charging port. She woke up as soon as she felt my presence. Falling onto my bed, I sighed. It wasn't a really comfortable bed and was more of a cot. The Resistance didn't really have enough money or resources for simple things like good beds. But it didn't matter. As long as I had something to lay my head, I was good.
