We got news of the First Order landing on the planet and all hell broke out. I was with the other commanding officers, yelling about where people needed to go. I was lost in all the chaos, trying to figure out how to prolong the attack.

"Naaraa!"

I turned to the voice to find Poe running towards me. He didn't say anything else before his lips slammed against mine. I gripped his shirt in my fists, the intensity growing between us. Poe's hands found their way under my shirt, slowly creeping up my back. If it was our last kiss, I wasn't going to be mad about it.

Poe pulled away. "Naaraa, my sweetheart, I want you to know that I love you more than anything. I don't want this to be my last fight without you knowing that, okay?"

I moved to hold his face in my hands. "This will not be our last fight, Poe Dameron. We will live to see another day, you hear me?"

Poe gave me one of his dorky smiles. "If you say so, my love. We'll make it through and live a quiet life somewhere away from this all. Just the two of us. I promise."

I hugged him tightly. "I hope you make true to your promise. Because that sounds lovely. Now get out of here and fight for that future."

Poe pulled away, giving me one last kiss before he ran away. I didn't have much time before Leia called me to her side. She gave me a quick hug before pulling away, holding my shoulders gently.

"Is your x-wing still here?" she asked. When I nodded, she continued, "I want you to take that out there when they get close. Go now and surprise them when the time comes. Understand?"

I nodded. "Yes, General. I'll do my best."

"Your best is what we need," Leia said. "Go now and stay safe. May the Force be with you."

I smiled. "May the Force be with you."

I was off within the second, running to where my x-wing was. I was able to get to it in no time, doing a quick maintenance check on it. BB-40 was right by my side, beeping away with worry. I tried to soothe her worries but I knew I didn't sound convincing. We were cornered, very few of us were left with little hope. But hope is what got us that far. It would get us farther than where we were.

BB-40 got lifted into my x-wing and I climbed into the cockpit. I spotted Leia standing on the edge of the crowd, a little smile on my face. She nodded to me as if giving me permission, and I started the takeoff procedures. I was off in no time. The other Resistance members had found obsolete speeders and were speeding toward the First Order's AT-M6 walkers and AT-HH walkers dragging something large behind them. I didn't know what that was but I knew it didn't look good.

I only had so long before TIE fighters started their attack on me. I went straight into an offensive attack and led the TIE fighters away from the obsolete speeders. I was one of the best pilots out there, save for a few like Poe and Luke.

Banking my x-wing to the right hand, I went straight for the AT-M6 walkers, weaving between them. A few TIE fighters had to peel off to not crash into the AT-M6 walkers but the rest continued to follow me. It was only after the TIE fighters started shooting at something else did I realize that there was another ship. It was the Millennium Falcom. I cheered when I realized who it was.

I turned my x-wing and took on half the TIE fighters while Rey took the other half. They followed her away from the fight while I fought my half over the rest of the fight on the ground. Once the TIE fighters were gone, I went after the AT-M6 walkers. The giant thing that was being dragged started charging up and shot a giant beam at the door of the stronghold. Panic filled me and I immediately went for it.

I didn't have that much time to attack them when I saw the Millennium Falcon rise from the rocky terrain. It paused for a second to assure I saw it before taking off. I followed close behind, leaving the First Order behind. Our ranks were smaller than they were before. But we had enough to bring the flame of hope to the galaxy.
