11. Confession Time, Here's What I Got

I spent most of the day in the hangers surrounded by Blue Squadron. All of us were bouncing around and fixing things as a group. There was a bunch of loud boisterous laughter as we spent hours under planes, bonding and growing closer by the minute. It was times like these that I enjoyed the time I had with my family.

We broke for lunch, all going to the cafeteria at the same time. We overtook a table and started messing around as soon as we sat down. Our trays of food were spread around, becoming a hodgepodge of mess. We ended up sharing a lot of our food, not even caring which plate belonged to who. It didn't matter.

About halfway through the meal, Poe joined us. There were several cheers from around the room for him but our table was the loudest. He joined us, a wide smile on his face. Of course, he chose to sit next to me of all people. He gave me his typical goofy smile and joined in on the conversation.

Within a few minutes, Poe leaned over to whisper in my ear. "I need to talk to you. Meet me at the forest border at dusk?"

I nodded, replying softly, "Yeah, I can do that. Is it important?"

Poe shrugged. "I guess we'll have to see. But I just need to talk to you."

I nodded, looking into his eyes to search for anything. "Yeah, okay. I'll meet you there."

I didn't know what he could want but if he wanted to talk, I was willing to meet with him. He had been through so much in the last week and he could be willing to talk about it. We had been growing closer lately.

After lunch, all of Blue Squadron met in the hangers again. We spent a lot of time going over plans and drills. There was a lot of arguing with even a few vocal opinions throw in there. It was quite entertaining but I had a lot of ideas that no one was listening to so it was also frustrating. Eventually, we had to give up and go to dinner. It felt tense between the group as we walked to the cafeteria but as soon as we were seated with our food, the tension dispersed.

I didn't see Poe during the meal. I even looked at the surrounding tables but I didn't see his face. I shrugged it off, assuming he had some other things to do. We would be seeing each other later that night so it didn't bother me too badly.

After the meal, I cleaned up and headed to my room. BB-40 was already in there on her charging pad and woke up when I walked in. I fell onto my bed, rubbing my face. BB-40 asked if I was okay and I just waved her off. I needed to decompress before I met with Poe.

After about half an hour of laying in bed, I finally decided to change into civilian clothes. As I did so, I glanced outside. It was still light out. One of the things I liked about where we were stationed was that it was warm and pleasant outside. I enjoyed the warm weather a lot and I loved wearing warmer weather clothing.

I wasted time until dusk. By that time, I left my room and made my way to the forest. I took my time, not knowing if Poe was already there or not. Though the time it took me to walk to the forest allowed me to think of what to say. I didn't know what Poe wanted to talk about but many ideas were running through my head.

When I got close to the forest, I reached out to sense for Poe. I found him in a clearing beside the river. I quietly followed the path to him and sat next to him. He was silent for a moment before looking over at me. I didn't look at him at first but a moment later, I met his gaze.

"You must be wondering why I brought you here today."

I snorted. "Yeah, kinda. What's up, Poe?"

Poe sighed heavily. "Being held by the First Order was hell. I was tortured and beaten senseless. All I felt was a pain but I couldn't help but think about you. You were what got me through the entire thing. I like you a lot, Naaraa, and I want to be with you. Like a couple. You once said that there was a possibility for more between us but . . . I want that possibility to happen sooner rather than later."

I tilted my head to the side. "So you like me? In a romantic sense?"

Poe nodded. "Yeah, I do. And I don't think that I'm the only one who feels this way."

I studied his face. I wanted to admit that I did feel some sort of way towards him but we were in dangerous territory. If we were in a relationship, I would have to tell him that I was a Jedi. I knew that I couldn't hide it from him but I also didn't want to tell him right away. We were also in a rebellion. There were fights on a near-daily basis and if the First Order found out that I was a Jedi, they'd harm anyone close to me. Poe included.

My lips parted for a moment as I tried to think of what to say. Poe was expecting me to answer but I didn't know what to say. Closing my mouth, I steeled myself and finally decided to answer.

"You aren't the only one," I replied slowly. "I haven't been able to be honest with myself until now, I guess, but I do feel the same way. I would like to be with you. I just want to take it slowly at first to see how things go if that's a thing."

Poe nodded, looking away momentarily before looking me in the eye. "Okay. Slowly at first. Can we sit for a little bit and talk? I want to know my lady a bit more."
